Basketball superstar LeBron James has made a heartfelt pledge to his son Bronny, promising to be there for his first USC Trojans basketball game even if it means missing a Los Angeles Lakers match.

The James family recently shared the good news that the 19-year-old is fit to play again, four months after suffering a cardiac arrest. James, a four-time NBA champion, stated after losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder: "Whenever he's cleared and ready to have his first game, I already told my teammates that if they play on the same day we're playing, I'm going to have to catch them the next game."

"He added: "Family over everything ... But definitely got to see Bronny's first game whenever he's cleared and ready to go." Between December 28 and January 27, 2024, the Lakers have six games that overlap with the Trojans.

During this period, the 19-time All-Star will face teams including the Charlotte Hornets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, Utah Jazz, Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors.

Bronny had been slowly working towards a comeback after the incident occurred while he was training at USC's Galen Center. He had surgery to fix what was found to be a congenital heart defect. Bronny started his recovery with some solo work before his USC Trojans teammates began their games.

He then started joining in the warm-ups with his team and after being on the sidelines, he will soon be able to help his team on the court. A statement from the James family confirming his return said: "Bronny James is now cleared by his doctors for a full return to basketball. Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff this week, resume practice next week, and return to games soon after.

"The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community, and especially the countless friends, family, and fans for their love and support. Fight On!" When talking about his son getting close to his return after a very scary time for the family. Just a proud moment."

"Big-time excitement from our family for Bronny. And for USC, as well. It's something that he's been working towards for the last 12 weeks. And for him to get the clearance to do what he loves to do and go back to being with his teammates and put on a uniform and things of that nature, it's pretty gratifying for sure."
