I'm A Celebrity have issued an apology after liking a hateful comment targeting Nella Rose on social media.

The ITV show's official Twitter and Instagram pages shared the statement late last night and claimed the Instagram account had 'accidentally' liked a comment which contained 'unacceptable language' after fans of the show spotted the show had liked a cruel body-shaming comment about Nella.

A statement from the programme read: "Yesterday we accidentally liked a comment on Instagram while scrolling down through viewer comments. The post in question contained unacceptable language about one of our campmates and we apologise for the mistake made and any offence caused. We seek to champion all our campmates and would always urge our audience to be kind when commenting on social media."

The apology left viewers divided as one said: "I'm glad you clarified the mistake. The hate towards Nella has been WAY to much. I disgree with some of her actions in the jungle but people are acting like she's the worst human being alive and that's unfair. She isn't that bad imo. I've seen A LOT worse. #ImACeleb".

Another added: "RUBBISH APOLOGY! You knew exactly what you were doing Also why are you trying to force a racist man upon our tv screen? Very interesting". And a third urged: "knew you wouldn’t of liked that comment intentionally, but we as viewers of course have our own opinions but we just need to air them in a respectful manner especially on social media platforms to just be respectful while expressing that opinion on certain campmates". Nella's appearance on the programme has sparked a flurry of cruel and hateful comments from cruel trolls on social media – following her fallout with Fred Sirieix early on in camp. Nella, 26, was seen in an awkward argument with First Dates star Fred Sirieix days after the show's action-packed launch. The YouTuber, who sadly lost both her parents, took offence to a comment Fred, 51, made about being old enough to be her father.

The episode received 907 complaints to broadcasting regulator Ofcom – the majority of which, 862, were over the heated TV row between the campmates. Meanwhile, cruel trolls have taken to Twitter to share hateful comments criticising the star as she continues to appear on the programme – despite her making up with First Dates star Fred, 51, in later episodes.

During her time on the programme, Nella has also clashed with controversial campmate Nigel Farage – confronting Farage over his anti-immigrant views and engaging in a debate with him about his views on cultural appropriation. While her initial clash with Farage, 59, received 856 to Ofcom – which were related to "alleged racial offence from Nella Rose's comments to Nigel Farage" – Nella was praised for how she handled the conversation with the ex UKIP leader on cultural appropriation.

One wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "It was only matter of time before Nigel finally let that mask slip Nella handled that situation so well. #ImaCeleb #ImACelebrityGetMeOutOfHere". Another added: "Nigel Farage trying to act like he’s on top of racism and just sticking his foot in it yet again I’m glad Danielle picked up on how Nella handled it, because she must be EXHAUSTED living with him #ImACeleb".

"Hopefully Nella is ok. I think conversations like the one she had with Nigel are the type to break your spirit slowly. God knows what things he’s said that haven’t been aired. The use of “they” was defo a weird micro aggression. Ughhh. #imaceleb," a third added.
