Inter Miami have sold out their season tickets for the upcoming 2024 MLS campaign amid heavy backlash from fans regarding the price of tickets.

The MLS side has grown in popularity since the arrival of eight-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi. But amid the club's new-found popularity, fans are now struggling to get tickets to watch games in person.

The club's latest announcement via X declared that there are no more season tickets available, but single-match tickets will be released shortly. The update means that supporters will no longer be able to guarantee their seat for the upcoming campaign.

While the news of the sell out is a welcome update for the club, the lack of availability is something that has come as little surprise to fans as the new season quickly approaches.

"Messi effect. Not surprising," one fan posted in response to the news via social media. "What do you expect, Goat plays there," another added referring to Messi as the 'Greatest Of All Time' (GOAT).

The news hasn't been welcomed by all fans on social media. Back in September, Inter Miami announced that the cheapest season ticket on offer would cost $884 (£700). The price is almost double that of the $485 (£383) it cost to watch the team last season.

The price of tickets has also doubled for the Midfield Club - an exclusive hospitality area where visitors can dine ahead of the game and have access to lower-level seating. Last year the tickets cost $3,600 (£2848), and now costs $7,650 (£6053) for next season.

"My 2023 season ticket plan was $6,802.00 for two seats," one fan posted on X in shock at the price hike. "The price they quoted to retain my seats is $30,600.00 This makes Inter Miami the most expensive soccer ticket in the world with what I can only assume is the biggest year over year price increase ever. Outrageous."

Another added: "Inter Miami doubled their season ticket price. This Soccer wave isn’t going to last long in the US if greed is the motivator."

One fan also drew on their own experiences and believes the club should follow in the footsteps of fellow Florida sportingfranchise, Miami Heat. "I was a season ticket holder when the Miami Heat brought the Big 3 (LeBron, Wade, Bosh) to the team," they posted. "My season tickets were not increased a 100%. On the contrary. For our loyalty they gave us a locked price for the next 3 years. Inter Miami needs to learn from other franchises."

The sharp increase in price for tickets coincides with Lionel Messi's arrival at the team, alongside fellow Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The World Cup winner made the move following a two year spell at PSG and over two decades at Barcelona that saw him lift four Champions Leagues, ten LaLiga titles and eight Spanish Super Cups.

The 36-year-old has continued his impressive winning streak at Inter Miami despite succumbing to a spate of injuries during his first season in the United States. The Argentine helped guide the MLS side to a Leagues Cup victory - the team's first ever trophy - and scored 11 goals and five assists in a total of 14 games.
