This is the bloodied mugshot of a thug jailed for viciously attacking and assaulting three women before a group of heroic boys helped stop him.

Dylan Makepeace conducted a spate of attacks on three women over the course of just half an hour on November 27 last year. He was described as "opportunistic and violent" and "clearly a danger to the public and especially lone women." During his attacks he sexually assaulted one woman and put his fingers down her throat.

He’s now been jailed for five years and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. But his reign of violence was helped brought to an end by a group of heroic boys on bicycles who bravely followed him and "detained" him themselves before police arrived. His mugshot shows Makepeace battered and bruised.

Two women noticed the 24-year-old loitering outside an address in Bethnal Green, London. He began following them despite previously asking how to get to a different floor and out of fear for their own safety one of the women began filming him before he launched a sudden attack.

Both women bravely fought back and after a "significant struggle" Makepeace pushed the women to the floor and pinned them there. But one hit him with a mobile phone and the cowardly attacker fled. They rang the police to report the horrific attack and around half an hour later Makepeace approached a third women walking home from the gym. He followed her into the communal entrance to her apartment where she stood aside to let him pass, but he attacked her too. Makepeace grabbed her and put his hand over her mouth and told her to "shut up". She tried to hit him and in the struggle they both fell over.

It was then the sick attacker put his fingers down her throat as she tried to scream and Makepeace also hit her head onto the ground. He sexually assaulted her but ran off when some "boys on bikes" appeared outside the apartment block as another resident heard the woman’s screams for help and took her into her apartment. By the time police arrived on the scene, the young men had detained Makepeace and handed him over to officers.

Makepeace pleaded guilty to:

  • Two counts of assault by beating
  • Sexual assault on a female
  • Intentional strangulation
  • Section 20 grievous bodily harm

Detective Sergeant Michael Dixon, who led the investigation for the Met’s Central East Safeguarding team, said: "Dylan Makepeace is very clearly a danger to the public and especially lone women. He was opportunistic and violent in his approach. He specifically targeted women as they returned home and entered private residential areas to carry out his attacks. I want to pay tribute to the bravery of these three women. They all showed incredible fortitude as they supported our investigation. I am in no doubt that London is a safer place with Dylan Makepeace behind bars."
