Pregnant woman missing 'with 14-month-old son' as police launch urgent search

A pregnant mother has vanished with what police believe to be her 14-month-old son.

A desperate search is under way for Soma Sirwan, 25, who was last seen on Monday November 27. She was reported missing then but, three days on, Northumbria Police have extended their appeal to find the woman.

The force says Soma, of Ashington, Northumberland, has disappeared with her 14-month-old son. Now officers are very concerned for the woman, who is seven months pregnant, about 5ft 7in tall, of slim build, with long, dark curly hair. Northumbria Police have issued a photograph of Soma to help with the missing person inquiry.

It is understood Soma uses a dark-coloured buggy for her baby. Soma herself usually wears dark clothing, and the mother has a mole on her chin. Anyone who thinks they may have seen Ms Sirwan or has information on her whereabouts can call Northumbria Police on 101 immediately, quoting reference number 1748306.

Writing on Facebook, strangers have offered the family their thoughts and shared the post to further the appeal. One woman posted: "I hope they are both found very soon safe and well." Another said: "Hope they are safe and well with this weather going on."

Northumbria Constabulary's full statement reads: "Police are appealing for the public’s help to locate a pregnant woman missing from Northumberland. Soma Sirwan, 25, lives in the Stakeford area of Ashington and was reported missing on Monday 27 November. Northumbria Police have said she is seven months pregnant and is believed to be with her 14-month-old son, who is likely to be in a dark coloured buggy.

"She has not been seen since Monday and officers are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare. Ms Sirwan is described as being about 5ft 7in tall, of slim build, with long, dark curly hair.

"She is known to usually wear dark clothing and has a mole on her chin Anyone who thinks they may have seen Ms Sirwan or has information on her whereabouts should call Northumbria Police on 101 immediately, quoting reference number 1748306."
