Strictly's Layton's dance experience highlighted by co-star in awkward moment

There was an awkward moment on Strictly Come Dancing as Fleur East brought up Layton Williams ' previous dance experience.

Speaking on spin-off show It Takes Two, Fleur brought up the question that has been on everyone's mind. The singer mentioned that Layton has had previous dance experience ahead of musicals week this weekend.

Some have claimed that it is unfair that the Westend star has been taking part on the show due to the nature of his day job. The conversation started off by talking about the fact that Layton and partner Nikita were in the bottom two at the weekend but were saved by the judges.

Describing how he felt at the time, Layton said: "It was really scary because literally anything is possible. If you have a little slip, especially when the nerves get to you, that can happen.

"Also because I love Angela [Scanlon], she's one of my favourite people ever so it's just like, no matter what happens this is gonna be shocking."

Nikita added: "You can't see behind the curtains but his reaction when he saw Angela in there, he was just sad." Layton added: "It's a lot...I feel like I had to experience it. I was like, okay come on now, come back fighting, this is real. And in 10 weeks I'm not gonna lie I thought I was gonna be in the bottom two much more than that."

Revealing what their game plan is for the rest of the competition, Nikita added: "I think honestly the best mindset to have is thinking week by week. We have our routine now, this is the one we want to push on. Everybody wants to win, everybody wants to get to the final but honestly, we are thinking week by week now."

It was then that Fleur found the opportunity to bring up that Layton has had previous dance experience. It was revealed that the duo's next dance will be the paso doble, as Fleur asked: "Now obviously we've mentioned that Layton's a musical man, he's got experience, but how challenging is the technique in the paso?"

However, Nikita seemed to avoid the experience element and instead went on to say how difficult the dance is. He said: "The whole routine is just, everything feels like everything needs to be perfect. It feels like we need to deliver and we want to deliver."

Nikita and Layton are due to dance the paso to Backstage Romance from Moulin Rouge The Musical. Other musical themes for other couples include Beauty and The Beast, Dirty Dancing ang Mary Poppins.

Fleur's questions came after it has been brought up more than once that Layton is a natural dancer and does it for his day job. His first job was at the age of twelve playing the title role in Billy Elliot the Musical before going on to play the title character of Jamie New in Everybody's Talking About Jamie.

Strictly Come Dancing returns with It Takes Two on Wednesday at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
