Grace Dent arrives back in UK after 'heartbreak' over I'm A Celebrity exit
Grace Dent has landed back in England following her exit I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
The BBC food critic, 50, was spotted at Brisbane Airport hours after ITV announced on Monday morning that she was exiting the ITV reality show early. During that night's update from the jungle, I'm A Celebrity viewers watched as Grace's message to her fellow campers was revealed.
The food critic looked downcast as she stepped off a flight from Singapore where she had a layover following her flight from Brisbane. Grace stepped out of Heathrow Airport's arrivals wearing a black turtle neck sweater, blue jeans and a pair of trainers. She kept her blonde locks in a high bun off her face as she strutted through the terminal.
Despite being met by hoards of people who had hoped to get her first response following her exit, Grace remained silent throughout her way out of the building.
Grace's arrival back in the U.K. follows her MasterChef co-star Gregg Wallace shutting down rumours culinary star Grace quit camp due to the lack of tasty food on offer. "She's been a restaurant critic for years and years - she's eaten some really bad food," Gregg explained on Monday night.
Sue Cleaver feels 'more empowered' as she labels her 50s her 'happiest decade'Discussing theories his fellow foodie Grace had grown fed up of dining exclusively on rice and beans, Gregg went on to tell the Express: "That won't have been it. I've stood beside her while she's cut into a semi-raw chicken - there's no way that the jungle would've put her off."
ITV confirmed Grace's departure from camp on Monday morning but didn't disclose the exact reason for the star's early exit. A spokesperson for the broadcaster said in a statement: "Unfortunately Grace Dent has left the show on medical grounds. She has been a great campmate and will be missed by her fellow celebrities and viewers alike."
It's since been claimed Grace's jungle departure was "mutually decided between Grace and show bosses" after ITV bosses grew concerned over her "visible deterioration in camp" and stepped in. Chatting to the MailOnline on Monday, an I'm A Celebrity insider claimed Grace made the decision to quit camp after being told she would be the next star to take on a Bushtucker Trial – claiming the thought of facing the challenge alongside Josie Gibson "the straw that broke the camel's back."
"It was mutually agreed that she would stand down from the competition, it was clear that she wasn't being herself, she had lost all energy when usually she's witty and fun to be around," the source claimed to the publication. "ITV's duty of care and welfare teams had stepped in, and rightly so."
The source went on to claim Grace had found sleeping under the stars with less amenities tough and not eating hearty meals proved to be harder than the restaurant critic could ever imagine. "Grace is looking forward to seeing her loved ones now and after a few days of rest and recovery will be fine," the insider concluded when discussing the star's health and I'm A Celebrity exit.
Grace was spotted at Brisbane Airport hours after her exit was confirmed by ITV on Monday morning as a source told the Mirror: "She is heading back to London today. She is tired and she just wants to get home." I'm A Celebrity presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly went on to address Grace's journey home later the same day.
"Sadly Grace Dent has left the camp for medical reasons but she’s doing fine and we all send her our best," Ant told viewers as he and Dec opened the show on Monday night, before moving on to take a look at what the rest of the celebrity campers have been up to in the jungle.
Later on in the episode, Hollyoaks actor Nick Pickard read out a letter from Grace confirming her decision to leave. "My dear campmates, I’m so sorry to let you down. I have left the camp for medical reasons," Grace's emotional note to the celebrity camp began.
"My heart is broken, I have loved and enjoyed getting to know you all. You’ve held me up and it’s been a pleasure being your friend through this experience. Leaving you all at this stage will be one of the saddest things in my life. I love you all. Your friend, Miss Grace Dent."
