Dolly Parton's outfit was certainly a big talking point after the country icon took to the stage in a skimpy costume.

The singing sensation continues to turn heads at the age of 77 and her jaw-dropping attire at the weekend was no different. The Jolene singer wowed as she took to the stage at AT&T Stadium in Dallas for the Cowboys ' Halftime Show on Friday.

She looked amazing in a pair of tiny white shorts, including a big silver buckle and blue Cowboys stars, while she also wore a matching fringed vest over a low-cut blue long sleeve. The star bared her midriff as she tied her top up in a traditional country fashion, with her bare skin was covered in glittering gems while wearing a bedazzled bodysuit.

Despite a wave of praise, the star was also called out by some for being "too old" to be wearing such an outfit. And it's this criticism that Dolly's younger sister Stella simply wasn't having. Taking to Twitter, Stella stood up for her sis, insisting: "I personally thought my big sister Dolly was cute as hell in her Dallas Cowboys cheerleading costume at the half time show on Thanksgiving."

Stella finished her tweet with a scathing comment for those not sharing her view. "To those of you being so critical of a 77 year old kicking up her heels, I say f**k yourself," she fumed. "Shame on you not her."

Fans were quick to back Stella's strong comments, sending praise her way in the replies. And the singer-songwriter didn't let the positivity go unnoticed, following up her statement by saying: "I wanna thank all of you for the positive comments on my post yesterday about my big sister Dolly. Watching the motorcade for Former First Lady Rosalyn Carter this morning I wept! America is only as good as it people. The Carters will certainly be missed. I love them!"

Last month Dolly opened up on how her granddad previously "scolded and whipped" her for the way she dressed. Discussing her childhood in her upcoming new book Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones, in which she documents the extensive clothes and costumes she’s worn throughout her hugely successful career, Dolly admitted she began dressing up at a young age.

She said her mother made her dresses from sacks, including a “coat of many colours” that was fabric scraps sewn together. However, it was something her grandfather was far from happy with. A local preacher, he hated the way she dressed, and Dolly told the Guardian how he physically punished her over the clothes she chose to wear.

She said: "I was willing to pay for it. I’m very sensitive, I didn’t like being disciplined – it hurt my feelings so bad to be scolded or whipped or whatever. But sometimes there’s just that part of you that’s willing, if you want something bad enough, to go for it."
