Zara McDermott's sweet message for Sam Thompson despite brutal I'm A Celeb snub

Zara McDermott might not be flying to Australia to see Sam Thompson but she hopes he goes all the way on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

The television star who has been dating Sam since 2019 was not the person who was chosen to meet her other half in Australia after his time in the jungle came to an end. Instead, Sam chose his best friend, Pete Wicks who recently revealed he "loved" Sam but would never tell him that.

As Sam continues to win over audiences, Zara has opened up about her boyfriend's appearance on the show and revealed that the Hits Radio UK presenter is being his authentic self.

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Zara said: "Sam has watched the show every year since he can remember, so to see him in there living the dream and loving every minute of it makes me so happy. He is truly being himself and although I'm already missing him, I want to see him go the whole way into the final!"

In just a number of days, Pete will fly out to Brisbane to meet Sam at the end of his journey but he joked to Sam's Hits Radio colleagues that he's on a special mission. Speaking to James Barr and Fleur East, he laughed: " ITV wanted me to go because I need to protect Ant and Dec from Sam when he comes out otherwise there could be some sort of restraining order happening!"

Sam has made his affection for the Geordie duo no secret and has often been seen embracing the presenters as well as his fellow campmates. But while some may be confused by Sam's decision to fly Pete out, he clarified the reasoning and Zara's recent appearance on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing was behind the plan.

Pete commented: "It wasn't a competition with Zara - it was always going to be me! To be fair, Sam and I thought she'd still be in Strictly because we didn't realise how bad she was at dancing."

However, James and Fleur were keen to get Pete's reaction after Sam was seen on screen yelling: "Do it for Pete, do it for Pete!" during the Locker Shocker trial. He responded: "Zara messaged me and asked, 'What is this about?!' Obviously, she knows I'm the favourite and she's used to it by now but I'm hoping he doesn't do that in bed. That would be slightly weird…"
