Louis Theroux has given fans an update on his battle with alopecia after taking to social media to post a video of himself with noticeable hair loss.

The 53 year old broadcaster, who made headlines recently over his challenge to fight Piers Morgan in a boxing ring following his interview with Anthony Joshua, showed that his eyebrows had been affected. Back in January, he shared a picture that showed gaps in his facial hair and told fans it "probably" resulted from his alopecia.

And most recently, earlier this week Louis posted an update via a video on his Instagram where he told fans: "I’d like to know how I’m supposed to continue a career based largely on raising and lowering different eyebrows WITHOUT ANY EYEBROWS!!

He added: "#alopecia I’m seriously thinking of getting them tattooed back on but it feels like a big step! Thoughts?" The condition is medical term for hair loss can come in different form such as hair thinning or complete loss, according to the NHS website.

Back in July, Louis took to Instragram and wrote: "Oh jeez it looks like the alopecia has migrated up to my eyebrow. I realise you aren’t all awaiting every update on its progress but I want people to acclimatise to the new partially depilated me and not freak everyone out by suddenly appearing in public like a half-plucked elephant bird with no forewarning."

He added: "So this is where we’re at. I’d really like to keep my eyebrows, but it’s out of my hands at this point … tho I have started taking vitamin d and something called biotin." Earlier this month, Louis was embroiled in an online clash with Piers Morgan over a boxing match. After Louis stepped into the ring with Anthony, the boxer said: "I could get you into a fight and it would do well. Oh yea. Because you would bring viewers to my broadcasting platform."

Thinking about who would be a perfect contender for Louis, Anthony added: "Umm…maybe someone like a Kugan Cassius Keen to find out more, Louis then asked: "Wait the boxing journalist? I thought you were going to say someone like Phillip Schofield." And it was at this point that one of Louis' producers suggested Piers Morgan, to which Louis said: "That's a perfect match-up. Number one. He’s very famous…and I think I could take him."

Piers hit back and wrote: "Have you lost your marbles Louis Theroux? I’d destroy you in 30 seconds, you puny wastrel." Unwilling for Piers to have the last word the interviewer clapped back and told Piers: "I don't think you've got the cardio fitness, Piers, TBF. You'd gas out and after that I'd just be playing music on your chin like a boxing Beethoven."

Once the reality of the suggestion started to set in, it looked as though Louis was having second thoughts. During a Q&A session with fans Louis said: "He’s quite big though, isn’t he?" And when asked what he would do if Piers accepted his offer, Louis said that it would be "stressful" but he would commit. He added: "‘The stressful part is he might even do it. If I take that seriously, if it was three rounds, no, I don’t want to have an actual fight with Piers Morgan. But I will do it if I have to. And that’s a promise."
