Jill Scott admits she's jealous of I'm A Celebrity stars as Grace Dent quits ITV show

Queen of the Jungle Jill Scott MBE has revealed why she's jealous of the I'm A Celebrity 2023...Get Me Out Of Here! contestants as Grace Dent leaves the ITV reality series after just eight days.

The former Lioness won last year's season of the popular show, beating runner up Owen Warner and Matt Hancock for the coveted title after quickly becoming a fan favourite. Jill, who has recently partnered with Tetley to launch its That’s Better That’s Tetley Moments campaign, has now spoken fondly of her time on the camp as she approaches her one-year anniversary of her I'm A Celeb victory.

"They all are going to have the best time! I’m jealous of them!," the renowned footballer told the Mirror ahead of this year's show premiere. "It’s not easy but it’ll be a great experience for all of them." Jill's glowing review of her stay in the Australian jungle comes just days before it was revealed that Grace Dent has quit the show on medical grounds, after previously admitting to struggling with homesickness.

The food critic, 50, has already made her way back to the UK, as EastEnders star Danielle Harold steps in to replace her in the upcoming Down The Tubes trial. Jill's tenure on the gritty show was undeniably more enjoyable, with the 36-year-old revealing she'll always hold fond memories of the camp. "I look back on my time in the jungle and really laugh and appreciate those moments spent with contestants. You get to really know the other celebs on the show, which I loved," she continued. Jill, who is now coaching young academy footballers, went on to offer her best advice for contestants on this year's series.

"Really it’s just about having as much fun as you can, really throw yourself into it and embrace the experience because it is such a once in a lifetime experience," she said. "Also, the people you’re with will be the best support in jungle so have as many laughs as you can! I still have some great friends from my time on the show, Chris Moyles I really bonded with and I’m looking forward to the new season getting properly started."

Elsewhere in the interview, Jill spoke affectionately about her beloved grandmother and number one supporter, Jean. "She’s an absolute legend and we always have a great catch up and a cuppa when I’m back in Sunderland," she revealed. "She’s my go-to for having a chat and a chance to chill out." Jill also said that she'll be "taking December off" to spend time with partner Shelley, with whom she runs a coffee shop in Manchester, and her family. "It’s so important to reflect and spend time with people you love, even if it’s just for 15 minutes or so over a cuppa tea," she added.

Grace Dent's departure from the ITV reality series comes after she suffered a nasty attack from a cockroach being forced to wear an American football helmet filled with bugs for a challenge to secure food. "There’s one in my ear! There’s one in my ear! That’s not nice, I can hear it," she alerted the producers, before receiving medical attention to have the bug flushed out.

"I’ve completely had enough. I just want to go home," Grace later told This Morning's Josie Gibson, before admitting in the Bush Telegraph, "I haven’t got a lot left in me at the moment. I’m just keeping on a face for everybody."

Grace's depature was later announced by ITV in a statement which read: "Unfortunately Grace Dent has left the show on medical grounds. She has been a great campmate and will be missed by her fellow celebrities and viewers alike."
