'I dated man for weeks then found out he was married - his wife was heartbroken'

A woman has spoken out on the unbelievable moment she discovered the man she had been dating for six weeks was in a nine-year-long marriage.

Christina Gavin’s sharp-eyed mother decided to do a background check on the man she had been seeing - and exposed the devastating truth. 28-year-old Christina described it as a “gut punch” which left her feeling “ashamed” and like she had “lied to herself”.

It was on the dating app ‘Bumble’ that Christina had found the man after spending most of her life single. It was just after her 27th birthday that the California -based podcaster matched up with the adulterous man - with whom she instantly hit it off and arranged a date.

And it was a nice surprise after a long history of hopeless and failed dates - as the man had put a lot of effort into planning a romantic evening. It was all green flags for Christina, who decided to continue chatting to and meeting up with her new lover.

But as things progressed she began to notice a couple of slight inconsistencies when she reached “dates four or five”. With the attention to detail of a detective, she noted the man was always covered in dog hair despite allegedly not having a dog.

She also questioned why he would never take her back to his place - they would only go to hers - and he always seemed careful in what he was telling her. She decided to have one of her friends do a background check, and at first all seemed above board.

But the motherly-senses of Christina’s mum were alerted - and after she did some digging, she discovered the mystery man had a leasing agreement with his name and the name of an unknown woman. She went digging into a wedding website - and shockingly discovered her daughter’s new lover was already married.

"My mom is actually the one who did the background check, and on first glance, everything looks completely normal, with everything saying who he says he is-no arrest record, no criminal record,” explained Christina. "However, his lease had two people with the same last name on it, and I know this was not his siblings name.

“My mother then went and found his wedding website, and that's how we figured it out. I was asleep; my mom kept calling, saying she really needed to talk to me. At the time I said, I just don't care; let's talk about it in the morning.

"She then called me at five in the morning because she wasn't able to sleep, and she told me that he was married. I didn't believe her at first. Then I was racking my brain through all the interactions I had gone through with him, and I ended up being able to find his wife on Instagram, see all of her photos, and see photos of them together.

"When he had told me he was doing something, he was doing that thing that he had told me, but it just happened to be with his wife and their dog. I reached out to his wife first to see if maybe there was an extraneous circumstance; they were separated or something like that.

"She confirmed that they were, in fact, still married, still living together-no plans on divorce. That's when I confronted him. He basically said, ‘Oh, well, I'm getting a divorce’, and I said, ‘Well, that's not what your wife has to say’.

"He was also very nonchalant; I said, you know, ‘your wife deserves better. I deserve better’. You could tell that he had been confronted about this many other times, and he just couldn't care less. I was really worried that his wife would be angry at me, and she wasn't. She was heartbroken; her suspicions were true that she had suspected for the last few years."
