Joanna, who is an avid animal lover and was recently named as an ambassador for RSPCA, has gushed about her new TV role, admitting that it will be a 'passion project' for her. “I’m going to be doing a wildlife show where I’ll be training to become a nurse to some wildlife vets," she told “I adore animals and we as a family just love them. My children are very excited about me doing this new show.”

Her new TV role comes just days after Joanna shared her thoughts at the possibility of a new episode of Gavin & Stacey being filmed after fans noticed show creators Ruth Jones and James Corden have been spending time together.

Joanna played loveable Stacey across all 21 episodes of the hit BBC comedy. The last time the show aired was in 2019 when a Christmas special was presented - nine years after the third season had appeared on screens.

Earlier this month, 57-year-old Ruth and 45-year-old James - who created and wrote Gavin & Stacey - were spied wandering around Soho in London together, looking in high spirits and laughing. The sighting sparked excitement among Gavin & Stacey fans who hoped that the reunion could signify that the duo were planning to sit down together to write fresh episodes.

Joanna then shared her own thoughts about the possibility of the BBC show being revived after four years. Fans of the show will recall the last Christmas special ended on a cliffhanger as Nessa, played by Ruth, got down on one knee to propose to Smithy, played by James, only for the episode to end before his response was heard.

Speaking to the MailOnline, Joanna said: "I can see them never doing any more because it was nice to leave it on a cliffhanger because it's up to the viewer to imagine what would have happened. So I can imagine them ending it like that.

"I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't get the call, and I wouldn't be surprised if I did. But all I can say is, if they were going to do another one I hope it's soon because we're all getting so old, I don't particularly want to see Stacey get that much older."

The cast of the hit show also includes Mathew Horne as Gavin Shipman, Larry Lamb as Gavin’s father Michael ‘Mick’ Shipman, and Alison Steadman as Pamela ‘Pam’ Shipman - Gavin’s mum. While Melanie Walters played Stacey’s mother, Gwen West, and Rob Brydon plays Stacey’s mysterious uncle Brynfor ‘Bryn’ West.
