Nick's co-star Owen Warner revealed his pal has been in training for the hunger pangs

While I’m A Celebrity is fun to watch from the comfort of your home, tucked up in the warm, with your belly full, and all creepy crawlies firmly locked outside, it is quite a challenge for the pampered stars taking part.

And one of the hardest things that the celebs have to go through is the lack of food on offer. In fact, I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!'s 2022 runner-up Owen Warner openly admitted that he struggled a lot with his hunger, which caused him to become irritable during the show.

However, it appears that one of the jungle’s current campers, Nick Pickard, 48, and Owen’s Hollyoaks co-star has been in training to prepare for this very problem. Discussing his pal’s preparation, Owen, 24, told Heat magazine that he wants Nick to be crowned King of the Jungle.

He said: "Nick is my number one. I've worked with him on Hollyoaks for years and he is the loveliest geezer. When I first joined the show, he really took me under his wing and taught me so much about the industry."

Adding that if Nick doesn’t win then he would like to see Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson take the crown, as he is covering Sam's radio show while the reality star is in Australia.

Explaining why he thinks Nick might handle the lack of food better than others, he revealed that the actor had been following a strict healthy lifestyle in the months beforehand. He added: “I've just told them to enjoy it, because nothing I say can prepare them for it. No matter how hard or horrible it gets, it's still an incredible experience. I know Nick fasted in anticipation, which seems like a good idea."

Fans of the show will remember during Owen’s stint in 2022 that he sometimes became quite short-tempered due to his hunger, even claiming to enjoy some of the Bush Tucker trials as it gave him the opportunity to eat.

Earlier this week it was revealed show bosses had issued an urgent warning after two campmates were attacked - by leeches!

Viewers watched as the celebrities dealt with a downpour and the fallout of the torrential rain continued with the arrival of blood-sucking leeches. Sam Thompson and Nick Pickard have both fallen victim to the unpleasant critters that were brought into the camp after last week's weather.

Weather storms hit the camp last week alongside high temperatures, making the camp the ideal home for a swarm of leeches. A source said: “Sam had a leech attach itself to his foot and Nick had one on his hand - the rain has brought them all out.

"Production has told the celebs to take extra care and be vigilant. Whilst leeches fall off naturally once they’ve drunk their fill, if the celebs are feeling weak, tired, and hungry anyway it’s far from ideal."
