Strictly's Bobby Brazier's odds plunge making him likely to face dance off again

Bobby Brazier could be heading for defeat on Strictly Come Dancing after being in the bottom two last weekend - with the freshest betting odds making it likely he will face the dance off again this weekend.

The 20-year-old EastEnders star is partnered with Australian dance professional Dianne Bussell, 34, as part of the 2023 season of the long-running BBC dance show. But disaster struck the pair during Blackpool week as they failed to secure enough scores from the judges and votes from the public to save them from the dreaded dance off.

Bobby had been an early favourite to win the 2023 season but has seemingly stalled under pressure while other contestants have soared. Now experts think his near miss last week may have knocked his confidence - having been saved by the judges at the last minute meaning Angela Rippon, 79, and Kai Widdrington, 28, were sent home instead.

There are now fears Bobby will slip up again this weekend and find himself in the bottom once again - and the judges could be less likely to save him. And this news comes even though celebrity contestants Angela Scanlon and Annable Croft had been leading the bookies favourites as those most likely to be eliminated.

Lee Phelps, a spokesperson for William Hill said: “We’re very much in the business end of proceedings in this year’s edition of Strictly Come Dancing, with Angela Scanlon our favourite to depart.”

He added: “Annabel Croft will likewise have to put in a serious performance to secure her path to the final five.” However, the latest odds from the begging company have suggested it could be Angela and Bobby in the dance off instead.

Angela's odds of winning have slipped to 20/1, and Bobby has dropped to 16/1. With renewed odds of winning increasing for Annabel to 12/1 - Bobby and Angela are now most likely to face the dance off this weekend. And even if Bobby scrapes by, it is expected he will continue to be in the bottom two for the remainder of the contest as the top three contestants, Ellie Leach, Layton Williams and Nigel Harman have such positive odds of 2/9, 8/1 and 10/1 respectively.

It is not all bad news for Bobby, however, as some think his brush with defeat last week may have focused his mind. Online bingo site Heart Bingo resident Strictly Come Dancing expert and professor of dance, Dr Jill Rose Jacobs, thinks she knows exactly why Bobby faltered last week. She said: “Like many, I questioned how Bobby found himself in this week’s dance-off. Did viewers vote with Bobby’s lacked-lustre performance from week eight in mind?

“Angela (Rippon) also danced well but had moments of hesitation when alternating between partners, from Kai to the other professional dancers. Her costume and music, Tea for Two by Ella Fitzgerald, contributed to the impression that her dancing was dated.

“Hopefully, what happens in Blackpool stays in Blackpool – for Bobby’s sake. It’s the right time for Angela (Rippon) to leave the competition, and, for now, Bobby has more chances with more dances.”

Dr Jill went on to predict Bobby will now be more motivated to keep himself in the contest. She said: “Winning the Glitterball Trophy will require skill, showmanship, passion, luck, and the ability to channel these into dance performance. Whether the recipe is sprinkled with magic from extra-curricular activity off the dancefloor or derived from astute dedication to excellence in artistry is the winning question in this Strictly series.”
