Bernardo Silva says Manchester City's players are driven to create history by becoming the first club to win four successive Premier League titles.

City have won five of the last six league titles, but Pep Guardiola's Treble winners can break new ground by making it four in a row by retaining their champions status. And midfielder Silva, who has been one of City's stand-out players so far this season, said Guardiola's squad want to go down as the greatest side in the history of English football.

“We know that no one has ever won four in a row and we are fighting for the fourth, knowing that the teams we are playing against this season have improved a lot from last season,” said Silva.

“Liverpool are back, Tottenham has started the season really well and Arsenal again. It's going to be a very tough job, but we definitely want to create history and win four in a row which no one has ever done.

“We are a team that has won five Premier Leagues in six years and we want to keep winning, with the goal of creating a legacy of people in 10 to 20 years looking back and looking at us and thinking that this was one of the best teams in the history of English football and maybe the best.

“That idea of people looking back at us and knowing that we created a bit of history in this game is a nice view. There is not a big secret. Maybe it's just the mental side of it, where we get to a point in the season where we think we cannot drop any more points and we have to win all of the games.

“We had a conversation at the beginning of the season because we wanted to try and start the season well, because last season we put ourselves in a difficult situation where we were seven or eight points behind Arsenal and it's not a nice feeling, because you have to go after them.

“We needed to start the season well, put ourselves in a good position to win the league and not go after Arsenal, Liverpool or Tottenham. We're trying to work on that and win as many games as possible.”

City host Liverpool in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday and Silva said home advantage will be a key factor against Jurgen Klopp's side.

“It's always better to play at home with your fans,” said Silva. “We have that feeling at home at the Etihad and we felt it last season in the Premier League and the Champions League.

“The energy that the crowd creates at the Etihad is unbelievable and again against Liverpool we are going to try and create that special atmosphere to push us again, knowing we are playing against a very tough opponent. We were expecting Liverpool to come back, definitely.

"It's a team that knows exactly the way the manager wants to play and they have a manager that has been there for a long time, so everyone thinks in the same direction and when that happens, most of the things go well. They are going to be a very tough opponent to beat this season.”
