Christmas is just over a month away, meaning many of us will likely start decorating our homes in the next few weeks.

Nothing says the festive season like a beautifully decorated tree, and whichever way you like to decorate it, the experience is always best shared with family and friends.

You might put a lot of thought into where each bauble and piece of tinsel will go, but you may not be thinking about the exact location of your tree. And according to experts, many of us have been putting them in the wrong place at home.

lacing your tree in front of the window for the world to see is a common sight in many households, but Emily Simmons, creative director at Ruggable, says this should actually be avoided.

She said: “With many people preparing to put their Christmas decorations up, a bay window will likely be the desired place for their Christmas tree.

"However, although a real Christmas tree does need sunlight, too much direct sunlight can dry the tree out and block natural light coming into your room when placed directly in front of the window, which can make your room darker and colder."

To help people get the most of their inside space this Christmas, Emily has suggested a few other places to put your tree that don't block out as much light.

She said: “I would always suggest placing your real Christmas tree to the side of the window or nearer a window that isn't a south-facing one. This way, your tree will still get the light it needs, without giving it too much direct sunlight. The natural light will be able to dazzle your tree decor as well, adding to the festive feeling in your home!”
