There’s so many streaming services and TV providers these days that it can be tricky keeping up with what’s what. It often feels like a brand-new, must-see TV show or film drops each week, with TV lovers struggling to keep up.

Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+ and Paramount+ are all vying for your membership with enticing content and some exciting Black Friday deals. So how do you choose the right platform for you?

The easiest way is to look at what films and shows are available now and what’s coming soon to find content that takes your fancy. I’ve explored each streamer’s ever-growing film and TV libraries to find my pick of the bunch that offers the best quality content for the best value.

As we head into Winter, Apple TV+ appears head-and-shoulders against its competitors in terms of quality content. The streamer appears to be adopting the ‘quality over quantity’ approach, dropping fewer new films and shows than some of its rivals but ones which exude quality.

There’s some awesome new shows available exclusively on Apple TV+ right now that are perfect for a festive streaming binge, with more just around the corner. Whether you’re into monsters, space, spies or science, Apple has something for everyone.

The all-new Godzilla spin-off series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has earned some warm reviews and currently boasts an 89 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes after three episodes. The series picks up after 2014’s Godzilla and stars 80s icon Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt as the same character 50 years apart.

The fourth season of For All Mankind – Apple’s alternate history space drama – is streaming now, as is Oscar-winner Brie Larson’s 1950s-set Lessons in Chemistry. But Apple also has some big blockbusters on the horizon, as the third season of Gary Oldman’s acclaimed spy comedy Slow Horses drops on November 29.

Martin Scorsese’s epic crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon is also expected to launch on the platform in the near future with a potential December release, though an exact date is yet to be confirmed. January sees the launch of two tantalising shows in Peter Capaldi’s new crime thriller Criminal Record followed closely by Masters of the Air, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’ new World War II series starring Elvis actor Austin Butler.

All of this – plus thousands of other great films and shows – are included with a subscription to Apple TV+, which usually costs £8.99 a month after a seven-day free trial. But this Black Friday there are several ways to get Apple TV+ for free, including a deal from Currys that includes five months of Apple TV+ for free with any purchase.

Sky customers can claim six months of free Apple TV+ alongside a bargain Black Friday bundle that also includes Netflix, Sky Stream and Sky TV for £19 a month. This amazing money-saving deal means bargain hunters can save £126 over Sky’s 18-month term, plus £53.94 with Apple – a total £179.94 saving.

But if none of this floats your boat, Netflix also has some crackers just around the corner. As well as the brand-new competition show Squid Game: The Challenge and the final season of The Crown, the streaming giant is gearing up to drop some huge big-budget blockbusters in December.

The biggie is Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder’s epic space opera that started life as a Star Wars film. Inspired by the iconic franchise and the films of Akira Kurosawa, this two-parter centres on a peaceful settlement on the edge of a distant moon that becomes threatened by a tyrannical ruling force

Prior to this, Netflix is releasing Bradley Cooper’s biopic of conductor Leonard Bernstein and the stop-motion sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Plus, the second half of The Crown season six and Leave the World Behind, a new psychological thriller that boasts a star-studded cast including Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke and Kevin Bacon.

Netflix is also included in Sky’s entertainment bundle with Sky Stream and Sky TV, plus six months of free Apple TV+ for £19 a month. Those in the market for a new mobile phone can get Netflix included with certain plans at EE, including the new Samsung Galaxy S23 with 125GB of 5G data on the network’s All Rounder Plan.

To keep things hassle-free, most streaming platforms offer anytime cancellations for pay monthly members, meaning it’s easier to switch to a rival service if no new content excites you.
