Sky Glass is the brand's new take on the TV market. It wants to give customers a new smart TV as part of their monthly subscription package and it has now cut the price drastically for Black Friday.

Sky Glass comes in three sizes, small 43inch, medium 55inch and large 65inch, with prices usually starting at £649 for a 43inch, or £13 a month over four years. The 65inch comes in at £1,049, or £21 a month over four years. However, for Black Friday Sky is promising its 'lowest ever' price on Sky Glass at £33 a month for the TV and monthly subscription.

The £33 a month deal for Sky Glass and the Ultimate package is the cheapest Sky has ever offered for the bundle and it includes free access to the Netflix streaming service.

Sky has also cut the price of its Sky Stream box. The small, puck-like box, can be plugged into home internet and again can stream Sky channels without the need for a dish. Sky has cut the price of a Stream box from £26 to just £19 - the cheapest ever price for the device. The deal also includes Netflix as an added extra.

However, Sky's Glass option is the range-topper and essentially gets you a free TV with your subscription. But is it worth it? Over the last few months we have reviewed the Sky Glass TV set to see if it really is the best of the Black Friday TV bargains.

We tested the largest in the range, the 65inch TV, in the striking Dusky Pink colour. It was a replacement for a bog standard 42-inch LG TV which did include Freeview and access to apps such as Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime.

The big selling point on Sky Glass is that you get access to Sky subscriptions without the need for a bulky satellite dish. Instead the TV connects to Sky via your internet connection.

This all-in-one entertainment system features a 4K screen as well as a soundbar for improved audio.

Once again, it uses the web for accessing content so there's no need for a dish. There's a full list of live channels as well as all of Sky's premium services and Netflix. Glass also offers easy access to all of the most popular streaming apps such as Disney+, Prime Video and Apple TV+ plus you can store your favourite shows via the clever Playlists feature which uses cloud recordings to let you view content after its aired.

Other features found on Sky Glass include a back-lit remote control and voice search to help you find things faster.

Our initial verdict is that it is worth the money. The voice control and Glance Motion Technology do have a few teething issues and do not always seamlessly understand commands. However the sound and picture quality is superb and is significantly better quality than many similar-priced TVs on the market.

The Sky Glass TV

It goes without saying that a 65inch TV is big, and will look huge and dominating in any living room. If you are short of space the smaller options are probably a better choice.

It's a heavy beast though, and a lot thicker than most modern TVs. The 65inch measures at 144.98 x 91.20 x 28.8cm with the stand, and weighs a back-breaking 35kg with the stand, and 28kg without it, but because Sky Glass is so thin and sleek, it hides a lot of this bulk from the front.

The Sky Glass TV can be mounted to a wall but you are advised by the delivery team to either let them do this, or get it installed professionally, so it's worth making your mind up on this before it arrives. It comes with wall mounting plugs and instructions on how to do it.

The body of Glass is aluminium and houses the built-in sound bar below the screen. The pink fascia covers the sound bar so the whole thing looks clean and compact.

The Sky Glass is a 4K TV and as such it delivers high quality streaming that is well above the quality of the likes of the NowTV streaming boxes, which maxes out at 1080p. Sky says the Glass has over one billion colours produced using its Ultra HD technology and that means picture quality is superb.

There's also an auto backlight feature in settings which adjusts to the light of the room, so if you're watching something in front of a sunny window, it can easily adjust glare and reflections, same at night time too if there's a light shining on the screen.

All that is topped off with 360° Dolby Atmos sound and a built in sound bar.

Verdict

Sky Glass is a visually attractive and appealing TV to have in your room, regardless of the size you go for. The colours and the new fascias added to the sound bar really make it a beautiful piece of technology.

The picture quality for watching films is captivating and the sound quality is greater than any TV we've seen had. Paired with the ability to turn on while you're in the room and to adjust sound in terms of the type of content you're watching makes it a TV that stands out from the rest.

To take it to the next level Sky needs to fix some of the issues with the voice control, the sensitivity of Glance Motion technology, in terms of recognising humans and not other unnecessary movements in the room, and to scale it back ever so slightly on the recommendations, making the interface less cluttered and more smoother to use.
