King Charles is said to be finding running the monarchy "very difficult" because of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

According to royal commentator Gareth Russell, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made things within the royal family difficult in the last two or three years since they left their royal duties behind and fled to Montecito, California. He said: " Buckingham Palace could not have been any more clear than the initial announcement in 2020 of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex leaving, that the royal household would be quite willing or quite eager to have the Duke and Duchess of Sussex back at some time in the future.

"In 2020, it was still very much then-Prince Charles's hope that one day, his younger son and his daughter-in-law would want to come back to work again," he said.

Speaking to GB News, he continued: "Unfortunately what has happened in the two or three years since that announcement has made it very difficult."

It comes after Meghan and Harry were said to be in "panic mode" after realising that their "royal currency is dwindling". The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were snubbed by the Royal Family as Harry's father King Charles celebrated his 75th birthday.

It's also been claimed that Harry and Meghan won't be returning to the UK to spend Christmas at the Sandringham estate. Amid their frosty relationship with The Firm, Harry and Meghan are said to be holding their connections close as they try to save their "Hollywood lifestyle".

Meghan signed up with Hollywood talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME) earlier this year, a company that has represented major stars including Adele and Dwayne Johnson. However, with the couple not making a joint appearance with the Royal Family since Queen Elizabeth's funeral in 2022, a source has claimed they're running out of connections.

The source claimed: "Meghan and Harry are in panic mode and it's becoming clearer and clearer that their royal currency is dwindling which is having a knock-on effect on their Hollywood careers. They both know full well that their success rests on their royal connections.

"Being snubbed from King Charles's birthday celebrations was a huge wake-up call that the Royal Family is no longer prepared to put on a façade in a bid to fund their Hollywood lifestyles." The couple reportedly weren't invited to the King's birthday, but they did have a phone call with the monarch.
