Girls Aloud have hinted they could be heading to Glastonbury next summer after stunning fans with news of their reunion tour in honour of late band member Sarah Harding.

The iconic girl group were formed in 2002 when then-unknown stars Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, Cheryl Tweedy and Kimberley Walsh along with Sarah appeared on the ITV reality show Popstars: The Rivals. The band released five albums before disbanding in 2013 following their first greatest hits tour - and then tragedy struck in 2021 when Sarah lost her life at the age of 39 following a cancer battle.

This week, the surviving members announced they are hitting the road in 2024 with The Girls Aloud Show - a tour that is being performed in memory of Sarah. But now music fans are convinced the 15-date tour won’t be the only time Nadine 38, Nicola, 38, Cheryl, 40, and 42-year-old Kimberley will take to the stage.

Fans think the group are limbering up to take to Glastonbury as one of the performers at the 2024 festival. The quartet hinted at their possible inclusion on the 2024 line-up when they appeared on BBC Radio Two on Thursday morning to promote their Girls Aloud Show tour.

Show host Zoe Ball noted that there was a gap in the list of venues the ladies were planning to appear at in May and June next year - while Glastonbury is scheduled to take place from June 26-30. However, the band claimed they’ve not been called up to perform - just yet.

Cheryl teased: “Can I Just be blunt? Glastonbury haven't even asked us, but it's a nice idea isn't it?” While Nadine added: “Yes! They need to ask us!” Fans have dutifully started petitioning the Glastonbury organisers to gift the girl band a slot in the 2024 schedule. Taking to X, one pop fan wrote: "Oooo there is a Gap in the Girls Aloud Tour which means they will prob be at Glastonbury! #GirlsAloud #Glastonbury What we saying @emilyeavis." While another begged: "ok the campaign for Girls Aloud to headline Glastonbury officially starts here."

News of the Girls Aloud reunion tour has delighted fans - while some have been disappointed that the group won’t be releasing any new music in support of the tour. However, the group have a valid reason for not wanting to add new tunes to their repertoire while touring in memory of Sarah.

Cheryl explained to Vogue: “We couldn’t because Sarah wouldn’t be included in that newness. This is about celebrating the 20 years we’ve all had. So the tour has got to be inclusive of Sarah because she’s such a massive part of our make-up. It will never feel like the old Girls Aloud again but we’ve reached a point where we feel ready to celebrate all of it. Sarah included.”

The topic of Glastonbury also surfaced during the Vogue interview - with Nadine suggesting: “We’ve spoken about this but the thing is, we’d have to take our stage and so the logistics would be hard. But we are touring at the same time so maybe we could get a jet in.”

And Nicola added. “We’ll obviously come up with some spectacular opening. But all my ideas cost billions of pounds, which is the problem.”
