Call The Midwife star Helen George looks very different after unveiling a stunning transformation following her split from her longterm partner.

The actress, 39, is known for her long shiny brunette locks but, in her latest Instagram offering, the BBC star unveiled a drastic change as she rocked a blonde bob – leading fans to believe she had underwent a huge transformation.

As it turns out, Helen was simply testing out a quirky wig, but her adoring admirers are now urging her to go under the makeover for real. The talented actress, who plays Trixie Franklin on the BBC drama series, took to Instagram on Wednesday evening to show off her temporary disguise as she posed in rare mirror selfie which she captured in plush dressing room.

The striking snap saw Helen model a daring, side-parted bob while sporting a cosy black polo neck and some matching black trousers. Helen opted for a minimal makeup look but upped the ante with some bold cat-eye liner and a pink lip. Alongside the unexpected snap, the mum-of-two wrote: "Wiggy times."

Her drastic change in appearance comes after Helen recently separated from her partner, Jack Ashton. The pair share two young children together; Wren, five, and Lark, two.

Helen first met Jack over seven years ago on the set of Call The Midwife, but the pair split earlier this year in July. In a statement at the time, Helen said: "Some months ago, we separated. Our two beautiful girls remain the focus and I respectfully ask for privacy for this next chapter."

At the time, a source exclusively told The Mirror the couple had simply drifted apart from one another. "Helen and Jack’s decision to end their relationship has been amicable, and no one else is involved. They have just grown apart as a couple. Until now, only their closest friends and family have known what is going on, but in recent weeks it has been shared more widely," they shared.

"They are both incredibly committed to working together to be the best parents they can for their two daughters," the source added of their shock split. Helen, who also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, has played Trixie Franklin in Call The Midwife since 2012. Jack, 36, joined two years later as vicar Tom Hereward.

Viewers saw his character propose to Trixie – but she ended the relationship. The pair fell for each other in real life after travelling to South Africa to film the show’s 2016 Christmas Special.

Their daughter Wren was born in 2017, followed by Lark in 2021. Asked about their relationship that year, Helen – who was previously married to Oliver Boot – said: "It’s not like you have time to have hobbies at the weekends. You’re on set for a long time every day and you don’t get to see many other people. “We are like-minded people who understand the industry, the career and the long hours."
