Robertson issues injury update as Liverpool urged to copy Chelsea plan

The international break for Liverpool has been dominated by Jurgen Klopp sweating on the fitness of his key players.

The Reds return to action with a massive clash against title rivals Manchester City on Saturday. And Klopp needs his big names available if they are to defeat Pep Guardiola's side, with star full-back Andy Robertson now providing a hopeful injury update as he remains sidelined.

Robertson's update comes as Alexis Mac Allister was backed to overcome his early struggles at Anfield and former Reds star Danny Murphy urged Klopp to copy Chelsea's plan for taking on City. Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Liverpool news.

Robertson issues injury update

Andy Robertson has confirmed his recovery from a shoulder injury is "so far, so good", though refused to give a firm date for his return. Robertson last featured for the Reds at the start of October before injuring his shoulder while playing for Scotland.

"I'm getting there, slowly and surely. Surgery was a success which was the main thing, no complications from it or anything like that. It's so far so good, three weeks since my surgery now so everything is progressing well," he told Viaplay Sports.

"I have just got to take it bit by bit and week by week. Everything has went well up to this point and hopefully that continues. Hopefully, before we know it I'll be back on the grass. I don't want to put a game in mind and then I don't make it or I come back before then."

Alexis Mac Allister has been backed to overcome his early struggles to become a star player for Liverpool. The Argentine joined the Reds in the summer, but has come under fire for his performances, though team-mate Wataru Endo has insisted he will come good.

“Macca is more offensive, but defensively he always tries to make it better. As he keeps playing, he gets very strong defensively. Also, I can learn a lot of things from him and I think it’s a good balance between me and Macca," Endo said.

"He is still young, but he has already won the World Cup and has a very good mentality. We have very good midfielders, and we are team-mates who play together. I have learned a lot of things from these players, and I can improve more."

Klopp urged to copy Chelsea plan

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been urged to copy Chelsea's masterplan for getting the better of Manchester City. The Blues recently played out a thrilling 4-4 draw with the champions and former Reds star Danny Murphy believe that game shows how Klopp's side should approach Saturday's clash.

"When City pushed their defenders up and Chelsea were able to get a turnover, the speed of Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson was a real threat. If City persist moving one of their centre-halves into midfield, there is a risk because of the space they leave behind," he told the Daily Mail.

"I’m struggling to think of a front three better equipped to take advantage than Mo Salah, Nunez and Diaz. Diaz scored twice for Colombia against Brazil on Thursday night and Nunez was on target as Uruguay beat Argentina."
