Robbie Williams' wife Ayda describes singer's drink and drugs 'relapse' on their first date

Robbie Williams didn't make the best first date impression according to his wife Ayda Field Williams.

The couple, who have been together for nearly 20 years, could very nearly have failed to get together after Robbie's battle with drink and drugs saw him relapse on the night he first dated the actress. Speaking in an interview, Ayda has confessed she found his behaviour "disturbing" as the former Take That star sat in a jacuzzi clucking and only wearing one shoe.

Robbie and Ayda first met in 2006, after she appeared in a UFO documentary Robbie was working on, with the pair later getting wed in 2010. The couple share four children together with Teddy, 11, Charlie, nine, Coco, five, and Beau, three.

Speaking to the Sunday Times Style magazine, Ayda explained: "I saw what 'off the wagon' looks like, which is apparently someone clucking, wearing one shoe. It was very disturbing." She then added: "I swear to God, something cosmic happened. In this singular moment I totally understood who he was and he totally understood who I was."

The couple's 13 year marriage has been in the spotlight recently after Robbie's documentary series with Netflix was released, which details the Angel singer's mental health, addiction and depression, the paranoia that came with intense fame as a teenager in Take That, and his previous relationships including Spice Girls star Geri Halliwell.

Speaking in the series, Robbie revealed how he found his first date with Ayda after he stood her up the first time. He said: "I googled her, she was obviously very attractive. But I was also doing a lot of pills that were making me antisocial. So we had plans but I flaked." He soon realised his mistake, saying: "I left her a message days, weeks, later, and it made her laugh. We made plans to meet. But I wasn’t leaving my house, so she had to meet me there, which freaked her out a bit."

The couple have also opened up about their marriage, with Robbie previously claiming that they don't sleep together after he stopped taking testosterone to treat his depression. He's previously joked "everyone knows there is no sex after marriage" with Ayda agreeing their sex life is "completely dead". However Robbie has added that their is still intimacy in their marriage: "We are always cuddling and kissing, holding hands, and touching each other when we are just watching TV on the sofa, or a movie, or whatever. She's really empathetic, really kind, incredibly smart and very, very funny - and I trust her."
