Prince Harry said the Queen’s opinion of his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy caused their break-up, it's been claimed.

The couple dated on and off for seven years after meeting as teenagers but Chelsy called time on the relationship after telling Harry royal life was not for her.

The Zimbabwean-born businesswoman first started dating Harry back in 2004 when she was a boarder at Stowe School, before they went their separate ways in 2011.

Now the Duke of Sussex said his grandmother’s opinion of Chelsy contributed to their break-up, according to his a leaked version of his book, Spare.

Page 6 reported him saying: “I loved Chels’ ease, that she wasn’t complicated.

“She didn’t care what anyone thought. She wore miniskirts and high-heeled boots, danced however she wanted, drank tequila like me, and all of this made me really happy.”

“I couldn’t help what my grandmother thought about it. Or the people. And the last thing I wanted was for Chels to change to please them,” Harry wrote, according to Page Six.

Earlier this year Chelsy tied the knot with hotelier Sam Cutmore-Scott five months after welcoming their first child, a son named Leo.

Last year it was reported she described her relationship with the Duke of Sussex as "scary and uncomfortable".

She said in 2016: “Yes it was tough. It was so full-on: crazy scary and uncomfortable.

“I found it very difficult when it was bad. I couldn’t cope. I was young, I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible.”

Chelsy was constantly questioned about her relationship with Harry during their relationship, and at the time was juggling a career in leverage law.

Pictures of her leaving nightclubs ended up splashed in the newspapers when she did have time to socialise with friends, and this, along with the stress of dating a royal, contributed to the relationship ending.

She said: “I like to enjoy life, but I like to achieve things and am very ambitious.

“If you go out once, they take a picture, but they don’t take a picture of you going to work every morning, it’s of you falling out of a nightclub at 4am.”

It comes after several revelations continue to be shared from the Duke of Sussex’s book, Spare.

They include a string of damaging claims about various members of the royal family, including .
