Princess Charlotte 'told off' by Sophie Wessex in tense moment at royal event
Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Charlotte are seen in a tense moment on the royal balcony amid a royal event in a video which has recirculated online.
Social media users have purportedly jumped to the wrong conclusions after watching Princess Charlotte, eight, engage in conversation with her great-aunt Sophie during this year's Trooping of the Colour.
People thought Sophie, married to Prince Edward for more than 20 years, had scolded Charlotte, believing she told the princess to "sit down", as the military parade made its way along Horse Guards Parade. They've shared their thoughts on X, formerly known as Twitter.
But, days after the event itself, a professional lip reader shared his insights into what was said on the balcony. Jeremy Freeman said Charlotte appeared to ask Sophie: "Sophie, how long will it be?" Sophie, 58, replied: "I think it's now," according to Mr Freeman.
In the clip, shared on X, then Twitter, by the account @RoyalCentral, Princess Charlotte, who was dressed in a red and white sailor dress, could be seen leaning against a pillar before moving closer to tell her great-aunt something.

"'Sit down.' Poor Charlotte was bored," one person tweeted, while another said: "Love how Charlotte is getting told off here and to 'Sit down!'" Someone else asked: "Is Sophie telling her to sit down?" Others suggested that Sophie did not direct Princess Charlotte to sit, but was instead seen telling the eight-year-old girl that it was "loud." Some X users praised the bond between Charlotte and her great-aunt, who is mum to Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex.
During the Trooping the Colour ceremony, Princess Charlotte also shared a special moment with her grandfather, King Charles III. The monarch was seen tickling his eldest granddaughter, which many on X thought was a sweet interaction.
But it was Prince Louis who stole the show again in June, as he saluted the crowd during the RAF flypast. He appeared to imitate operating a plane during the flypast while standing on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
