Poignant 'turning point' in Kate Middleton's relationship with Charlotte

A leading behavioural expert believes she can pin-point the moment an adorable friendship began to blossom between Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte.

Judi James studied the interactions between the royal pair and discussed something important moments she noticed between them. The Princess of Wales has a close bond with her brood and especially with her daughter after Kate and William have been doing more public engagements with their three children over the last year.

Body language expert Judi told Express.co.uk: “Kate goes to great lengths to engage and inform her daughter.” She mentioned Kate’s use of “expressive gesticulation” to “build her Charlotte’s enthusiasm, anticipation and excitement”. The expert added: “Judging from Charlotte’s facial expressions and body language, Kate could soon become redundant in this role and start to just sit back and relax in public, as Charlotte looks the most enthralled member of the Royal Family.

“There’s a point in every parent-child relationship where there is a sense of friendship growing out of the nurturing role. This happens when the parent begins to enjoy the communication and shared fun as much as the child, and this looks like that kind of turning point in Kate and Charlotte’s relationship. There’s a growing sense of like-minded enjoyment between Kate and her daughter as well as between Charlotte and her dad William, as the year's progress.”

As for Prince George, Judi said she spotted “some very smart psychology” from Kate who behaves “not just as a mother but as a mother of a future King of England”. Usually, William is the “mentor to their son” but Kate has stepped into this role on occasion, especially when at sporting events and Kate “points out aspects of the game”. Kate also lowers herself to her children’s height “rather than crouching” and it “suggests she’s hosting rather than just parenting”.

They are all the family with official titles to the public, but in private the royals have some lovely names for each other, and Princess Charlotte's may be the sweetest of them all. The Princess of Wales has been heard to refer to her darling daughter with a few nicknames, but it seems her pet name was revealed to the public during a visit to Windsor Park stadium in Northern Ireland in 2019.

The only daughter of William and Kate was also nicknamed "Warrior Princess" at Willocks Nursery near her then-home in Kensington Palace, which she attended for 18 months, due to her "feisty" personality, according to Katie Nicholl, Vanity Fair's royal correspondent.

However, her mum has a sweeter monicker – "Lottie" – as one of her favourite ways to address the youngster, a woman who met the couple in Northern Ireland told the Daily Mail. Laura-Ann, 30, from Belfast, is a mum who is also a blogger, and had gone to Windsor Park with her two-year-old son George to meet Kate and Prince William. Laura-Ann, a part-time estate agent, said after the event: "So then she asked how old Bertie [her older son] is, and I said he is four and she said 'oh he's the same age as Lottie' – she calls her Lottie!"

Meanwhile, Katie told Entertainment Tonight: "I'm wondering if that might be a nickname [Warrior Princess] that will stick with her. Apparently she earned that nickname because obviously she is a Princess, but she's quite a tomboy. She loves climbing trees and she's very much an adventurer, she was quite known for her feisty personality.”
