Liverpool star Andy Robertson confirmed his recovery from injury is "so far, so good" but refused to put a firm date on his return.

The Scotland defender last featured for his club on October 8, in their Premier League draw with Brighton, picking up a shoulder injury on international duty days later. He has gone in for surgery, with left-back duties shared between several players including Kostas Tsimikas and youngster Luke Chambers.

Robertson has also been unable to represent his country in their final Euro 2024 qualifiers, though Scotland were already assured of their place in Germany before November's draws with Georgia and Norway. The left-back was at Hampden Park to watch the second of those games, and provided an update which may give a few fans cause for optimism.

"I'm getting there, slowly and surely," Robertson told Viaplay Sports. "Surgery was a success which was the main thing, no complications from it or anything like that.

"It's so far so good, three weeks since my surgery now so everything is progressing well, I have just got to take it bit by bit and week by week. Everything has went well up to this point and hopefully that continues. Hopefully, before we know it I'll be back on the grass.

"I've not looked that far ahead yet,” he said when asked about a potential return date. “I'm just trying to take it week by week, I'm trying not to get frustrated, I'm not the best injured so I'm trying to take small wins every single week.

"I don't want to put a game in mind and then I don't make it or I come back before then. I am just taking it slowly but surely and then there will be a time to start pushing it and when that comes I'll try and get on the pitch as quickly as I can."

The update will be a welcome one for Liverpool, who have a congested November and December to contend with. Jurgen Klopp's team are back in action in a top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City on November 25, and also have games against Arsenal and Manchester United to come before Christmas.

Scotland, meanwhile, failed to top their qualifying group after dropping points while watching rivals Spain pick up back-to-back wins. They will still be in Germany next summer, though, as they aim to improve on a group stage exit at the last European Championships.

After Lawrence Shankland rescued a late point for Scotland in Georgia, Steve Clarke's side played out a topsy-turvy encounter at home to Norway. The hosts twice trailed before Stuart Armstrong fired them into a 3-2 lead around the hour mark, only for former Celtic forward Moi Elyounoussi to ensure the spoils were shared.
