Fred Siriex's fallout with Gino D'Acampo – sparking sudden show exit

He was one third of a beloved TV trio whose adventures abroad left viewers in tears of laughter, but it all came crumbling down for Fred Siriex after his co-star Gino D'Acampo shocked fans by announcing that he was leaving the show.

After appearing on Gordon, Gino and Fred's Road Trip since 2018, Gino announced in March this year that he was quitting after "decid[ing] not to film any more" episodes. While insisting that his decision had nothing to do with his friends, rumours of a backstage feud swirled – including claims he had "blindsided" his pals.

Just nine days before his announcement, Fred had revealed he had been chatting to Gino about work – meaning he hadn't known that his pal would be leaving the show. A source had suggested that everyone – including Fred – had been left shocked by the exit, telling the Mail Online: "As far as bosses were concerned, talks were ongoing and a settlement was in reach."

It had also been reported Fred had quit in a bid to protect his friendship with his co-stars following a "stressful" row over "complicated" contracts, but insisted his relationship with Gordan and Fred remains "very strong". Gordon, Gino & Fred: Road Trip is produced by Ramsay’s production company Studio Ramsay.

Gino later addressed rumours of a falling out on social media, telling fans in a video: "Last week I decided not to film any more Gordon, Gino and Fred Road Trips. The reason is very simple – nothing to do with Gordon or Fred, the friendship is very strong. It’s just because we can’t get the dates together and sometimes when we do get the dates together sometimes they get changed and it causes a lot of problems for me because I have other stuff that I have to do."

He went on to add: "Personal problems as well because when I have to change things with my family it is very complicated and also because contracts. Because contracts start to become very complicated and very stressful, I personally value the friendship with Gordon and Fred so much that I would rather the friendship than arguments with the contract. So I have decided not to do it anymore because I want to be friends with the boys for many, many years ahead."

The celebrity chef went on to discuss his exit from the show during an appearance on Good Morning Britain the following month, admitting: "I love the boys, we have a great friendship, that is not the problem. As I said in the video it's the contracts. Sometimes they get very over-complicated and the main one was about the dates, trying to get the dates together.

"We tried and got the dates and then the dates got cancelled, then we started with other dates but they got cancelled again. Then I thought you know what? I can't do this anymore this has become too stressful I don't want to do this." He didn't rule out a return to the series one day, adding: "This year or next year is not going to happen but if the contract gets right, you never know."

Fred later revealed the state of his friendship with Gino and Gordon to the Mirror, saying of their final TV episode together: "This is the last trip that we’ve filmed and it was very good, very funny, we had a good time. You will see it and then you’re not going to see it anymore. You just have to go with the flow in life, some things come and some things go. It was great, we enjoyed it, we had fun while it lasted and now it’s not going to happen anymore."

Gino and Fred went on to reunite without Gordon months later in a new ITV show, but filming was halted after Gino was involved in a horror tobogganing crash with "blood everywhere". At the time, Gino described the experience as the "worst shoot of our life". ITV were forced to axe the show – called Emission Impossible – after Gino and others were left seriously injured.

Following their previous disagreements, Gino and Fred appear to have made up with Gordon as they congratulated him on the birth of his sixth child Jesse earlier this month. "FANTASTICO, still plenty of lead in that pencil!!!! Congratulazioni," Gino gushed. Fred commented: "Wow! Congratulations See you soon x."
