Transformers voice actor Peter Spellos has died at the age of 69, after being diagnosed with cancer.

Peter reportedly died earlier this morning whilst at a hospice facility in Indiana. He's said to have been receiving care at the facility as his health deteriorated, with him having reportedly been diagnosed pancreatic cancer previously.

The actor has worked on numerous films and TV shows over the course of his decades-long career. It's understood to have included various voice roles, such as in anime productions, and he has also featured in high-profile film franchises.

TMZ reports that, according to his friend and acting student, Jennifer Smith, Peter died early Sunday morning while he was at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis, Indiana. She told the outlet: "He was loved and cared for and surrounded by people during his final days."

According to the outlet, his brother James Spellos has shared that Peter will be cremated and that the family is planning a gathering online for his fans.

Peter notably voiced the character Sky-Byte in the show Transformers: Robots in Disguise, which was first broadcast in 2000. Also known as Transformers: Car Robots, it's understood to have aired on Fox Kids in the UK and the US in 2001. Peter is credited as having featured in 39 episodes.

According to an IMDb profile believed to be for him, he's appeared in films like science fiction sequel Men in Black II (2002) and horror sequel Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991), which is part of the A Nighmare on Elm Street series.

And he's said to have played Gus in numerous episodes of the NBC drama American Dreams between 2002 and 2005. Peter's other credits are said to have included shows like ER as well as Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Peter's voice work is said to have included shows like Digimon: Digital Monsters, in which he's credited as providing the voice of Meramon and other characters. He's also said to worked on the likes of Naruto and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Following the news of his death, fans have paid tribute on social media platforms like X, formerly known as Twitter. One person tweeted: "I am saddened to learn of the passing of Peter Spellos, actor, teacher, improviser, and the genius behind 'Robots in Disguise' 2001 fan favorite - SkyByte."

Another person said: "Peter Spellos was a real one, charming, incredible performer, his energy was infectious and he'll be dearly missed." A third fan tweeted: "Very sad news today for the transformers community as the legendary Peter Spellos has passed away. I had the pleasure of meeting him at 2019's TFNation and he was very friendly."
