Peace lilies make for lush, beautiful houseplants, which can do wonders for air quality, so it's no wonder that they're such a popular choice among those who love to fill their homes with all things green and glorious. Although these are fairly hardy plants, making them a good pick for forgetful types, they do require some love and attention to truly thrive.

A bit of fertiliser on occasion will be necessary if you want to see your plant bloom proudly in all its beauty, and there's one all-natural solution that should see it flower "like crazy". Best of all, it will only set you back a very purse-friendly 13p.

Sharing their wisdom with members of the Creative Gardening Facebook group, one keen gardening fan claimed that banana peels worked like a charm with their flourishing peace lily, which now has plenty of "big flowers". Taking themselves with a snap of the gorgeous plant, the group user wrote: "I have been watering my peace lily with banana peel water. It has been flowering like crazy with big flowers and growing faster. I have also been watering my other plants with banana water. All are going great."

As previously reported by the Daily Express: "Bananas contain plenty of potassium, which, along with nitrogen and phosphorus, makes up one-third of fertiliser. Potassium, which is particularly useful for flowering plants such as peace lilies, is also super useful when it comes to moving nutrients and water between plant cells., and contains a nutritional cocktail of manganese, calcium, magnesium, and sulphur.

Explaining how she goes about making her banana water, the green-fingered woman continued: "You put the banana peel in a jar of water with the lid on top and leave it in the water overnight or a couple of days. The water will look cloudy then I put the liquid in a jug to use later. Make sure you cover the peel completely with water.

"I use quart mason jars with a lid to soak my peels. When I use the banana water I do add some more water to it about three parts banana water to one part plain water. I also save the water in a jug. We both eat a banana a day so I have a lot of water to save. I water once a week or more often if needed."

You can pick up a pack of six bananas from Tesco for just 75p, which works out at a very reasonable 13p per banana. Best of all, this hack will no doubt encourage keen gardeners to take a break for a delicious, healthy snack.
