Breakfast, as experts say, is the most important meal of the day and you'd expect most folk that have one would stick to a full English or some healthy for of cereal – but a new poll has revealed that some Brits have some very odd tastes.

There are some out there who enjoy pouring curry sauce on their porridge and others who add chocolate spread and brie to their toast. The poll, by hotel chain Hilton, asked 2,000 people , found that we Brits have some other very weird taste combos too. How does tucking into a bacon butty with added peanut butter sound, for instance, or adding fruit to scrambled eggs, while some even dolloped baked beans on their croissant, and others thought it perfectly normal to wrap a banana in bacon strips.

Asked to reveal their favourite breakfast – other than traditional favourites such as cereals, toast or a fry-up – the study found that 51 percent of those polled said they liked trying out "new and adventurous" taste combos for breakfast when they were staying in a hotel.

Among the alternative brekkies Brits said they loved were first, curry sauce and porridge, second, a banana and bacon wrap, third, Nutella and brie on toast. Next came a bacon and peanut butter butty, followed by fruit and scrambled eggs, then baked beans and croissants, sausage and orange on a stick and honey and cheese on toast

Joanne Hanson, 44, of Pinner, north-west London, said that anyone eating curry and porridge needed their heads examined. She said: "I know people have weird tastes, but what is wrong with a bowl of corn flakes or a bit of toast? Who are these people who wake up in the morning and decide to pour curry sauce on their porridge or wrap a banana in bacon? These people need heads examined... it must be a cry for help."

A spokesman for Hilton said: "Our study found that 51 percent of Brits are more experimental with their morning meals when staying at a hotel. This hunger for sweet and savoury has led some Brits to bring unorthodox creations to the breakfast table.
Among them include curry porridge, chocolate spread with brie on toast and bacon-wrapped bananas. These are just some of the more unusual breakfast food combos we discovered."

Hilton is launching a new range of waffles in which Brits can mix up their flavour combos, including black pudding & bacon, tomato & mushroom and sausage & orange. And previously, a survey by Rainbow Riches Casino revealed that there are some on these islands that like, among other things, a full roast with gravy for breakfast.

That poll found that a breakfast pizza (pizza with full English toppings) was the most popular with 38 percent highlighting that. The survey also revealed around one in 20 would love to eat Yorkshire puddings with their cooked breakfast and three per cent of UK adults would even go as far as to pour gravy onto their breakfast if they were given the choice.

Of those surveyed, another three percent would add items to their fry-up including tomato soup, spam, tofu, carrots and hummus, while other strange choices included fried pork belly and sweet potato sandwiches with a spicy onion relish (16 percent), or spicy fish and pork with rice (15 percent), which is also known as Kedgeree, a traditional English breakfast inspired by the Indian dish Khichri.
