The international break is now in full swing, with Liverpool's stars enjoying a successful time with their countries.

The Reds' club record signing Darwin Nunez scored as Uruguay beat Argentina, though found himself coming under fire from superstar Lionel Messi. The recent Ballon d'Or winner was left unhappy following some unsavoury scenes which marred the World Cup qualifier.

Messi's blast comes as Trent Alexander-Arnold set out his ambitions to play in midfield while on duty with England and Luis Diaz was handed a heartwarming moment with his father as Colombia beat Brazil. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Liverpool news.

Messi hits out

Argentina superstar Lionel Messi has hit out at Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez and his Uruguay team following an ill-tempered World Cup qualifier. Nunez scored his side's second goal as they secured a surprise 2-0 win.

It was Argentina's first defeat since winning the World Cup last December and they were understandably frustrated at seeing their unbeaten record go up in smoke. And that led to a furious blast from Messi, who was himself lucky to have not been sent off.

Liverpool captain Trent Alexander-Arnold has set out his ambitions to be a key part of England's midfielder. Though he is a right-back by trade, Alexander-Arnold believes he can play further forward for the Three Lions.

“There’s a chance for me to go and earn a starting spot at the Euros. That is where my head is at when I’m turning up to camp. Every game for me between now and the end of the season and any time I’m performing, it’s to earn a place to start in the Euros,” he said.

“I’ve played around 20 games for England. I’ve had some opportunities, I’ve had minutes. But now, I feel like there’s a real opportunity for me, especially in a role that I think will get the best out of me.”

Diaz handed emotional moment

Luis Diaz was handed an emotional moment with his father as Colombia defeated Brazil. The Liverpool attacker scored both of his side's goals as they secured their first World Cup qualifying win over the Selecao for 15 games.

His father was reduced to tears as his son delivered a match-winning performance, having only recently been released from a harrowing kidnapping ordeal. And Diaz was understandably emotional afterwards.

He said: "I thank God. He makes it all possible. We have always lived tough moments, but life makes you strong and brave. So is soccer and so is life. We deserved this victory."
