Married At First Sight expert slams 'excuses' from contestant in tense finale

Married At First Sight's Paul Carrick Brunson has called out a cast member's 'excuses' for why they didn't want to commit to their relationship in a savage lecture.

The finale of the E4 reality series aired tonight, bringing together all the couples for a reunion ceremony after the 7 week long social experiment. In the communal reflection, all of the participants shared their takeaway thoughts on the show before receiving feedback from the panel of experts.

Things got a little awkward about half way through the episode, however, when it came time for Luke Worley and Jay Howard to open up to both the coaches and their fellow newlyweds. After addressing that Luke had been removed from the experiment for his altercation with Jordan, Paul asked the couple for an update on their current status.

"You left as a strong couple," he said. "Would you say it was a strong couple?" When Luke and Jay nodded in agreement, Paul followed up, "What happened?" It was at this point that the couple's problems began to unfold, with Jay revealing that Luke had been poor at responding to messages during their marriage.

"I'm not asking for blood," she said. "I'm asking for bare minimum." She then said she'd directly asked Luke if he saw a future of them together, before claiming that he said, "I think it's best if we're just friends." "The fundamental reason we're sitting here right now is the distance," Luke insisted, prompting Paul to interject with his own perspective on their issues.

"Distance is something that I always call BS on," he said. "Because distance is something you can close the gap on." The professional matchmaker then turned to loved-up couple Tasha Jay and Paul Liba to demonstrate his point, predicting that if they were 20 hours away from each other, "That man would crawl over broken glass" to be his bride.

"The distance, that's the excuse," the life coach continues. "The communication, the text, that's the excuse. Do you know what would be great? You know what? This is the real reason I don't want to be with you."

Looking uncomfortable, Luke replies, "I'll be honest. Jay basically said that it wasn't working." When asked if he believes the relationship can work, the sales executive admitted he didn't know. The couple continue to row over their issues with communication, before Luke is directly asked if there is any fight left. "No," he responds. "I'm done." Luke then confesses he doesn't want to change to be with Jay, leaving Paul Carrick Brunson visibly frustrated.

"That's what you should do," he insists. "That's what maturity is. That's what manhood is, right? It's about constantly changing, constantly becoming better. The question is, do you want to change?" When Luke doubles down on his previous stance, an exasperated Jay says that she's not willing to chase him any more, before adding, "It's f***ing embarrassing."
