Matty Healy has been booed for hailing Kanye West as his "hero" after expressing his frustration about his Grammys snub during a recent concert in New York City.

The 1975 frontman was performing a show at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday evening when he launched into the two-minute rant. "The fact that we didn't get nominated for a Grammy is a f**king outrage," he told crowds at the iconic stadium, according to a video shared on TikTok.

"The reason people don't say that is because it's not a very tasteful thing to say....But I am way past tasteful." Matty, who is the son of Denise Welch, proceeded to question, "Are they mental?" Healy then mentioned two of his band's albums, 2016's "I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It" and 2018's "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.", before insisting that his 2022 song "About You" deserves a Grammy.

"I mean, I don't really care that much but it just winds me up," he admitted, before taking a slurp of his drink with one hand as he held a lit cigarette in the other. Halfway through his tirade, Matty revealed his idolization for Kanye West, who has also criticized the Recording Academy in the past.

"I’m not being self-celebratory, but Kanye is one of my heroes," he admitted. "You know what? You’ve got to f–king believe in yourself." This confession didn't go down too well with the audience, however, many of whom responded by booing the singer. "I believe that's an awkward hero to have right now, I understand that," he acknowledged, before adding, "But separate the antisemitism. Just think about the self belief." He then broke into a laugh and shushed his audience. "Tell me one band in the past four years that could do what we're going to do in the next minutes."

Kanye, who legally changed his name to Ye in 2021, has made numerous anti-Semitic statements in the past. In November 2022, he tweeted in a now-deleted post he was "going death con 3 ON JEWISH PEOPLE" before claiming he wasn't "Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also."

Kanye also accused Diddy of being controlled by Jewish people, after the Last Night rapper contacted him to discuss the inclusion of a 'White Lives Matter' t-shirt in his fashion line at Paris Fashion Week. When Diddy asked him to stop selling the garments, he wrote, "Ima use you as an example to show the Jewish people that told you to call me that no one can threaten or influence me."
