A heartbroken mother has released a haunting image of her dying son in an attempt to bring his killer to justice.

It shows 14-year-old Gordon Gault in his hospital bed attached to tubes and machines which failed to save his life.

The schoolboy had a major artery slashed in a suspected knife attack while he was out riding his bike in a local park.

Mum Dionne Barrett had prayed that he would pull through but Gordon lost his fight for life and now she hopes the tragic image will help to bring justice for her son.

The 36-year-old appealed to anyone with information on the attack to come forward.

She said: “They just need to do the right thing. They have to realise that this is a 14-year-old’s life that has been taken."

She added: "We need justice and we are not going to rest until we get justice for Gordon.

“The people who have done this are still walking the streets.”

Gordon was stabbed in the Elswick Park area of Newcastle just half an hour after leaving his family home. Dionne said the blade cut a major artery in his arm after her son raised his arm to protect his head.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary after the incident at 6.30pm on Wednesday, November 9 last year.

But medics said he was likely to have suffered severe brain damage due to the lack of oxygen reaching his brain.

She took photos at his bedside in the days before he died “to show him what he was actually like” if he did regain consciousness.

However, she believes they can also act as a deterrent: “My other thought was if he didn’t come round I could use these photos. If it stops one person picking up a knife, it’s worth it.”

Gordon died in his mum’s arms on November 15.

Northumbria Police are still investigating his death. A total of 14 teenagers, aged 15 to 18, have been arrested as part of the investigation and released on bail.

Dionne said her son had dreams of joining the army and she is frustrated at the lack of progress in catching his killer

She added: “Nobody is saying anything at all. There are parents that know their sons aren’t saying anything.

“It could have happened to anyone, it could be their kids.

“There’s still people out there. I have passed names forward that I have been given. I won’t stop until we get justice.”

Anyone with information about Gordon’s death should call Northumbria Police on 101.
