Daniel's family learned he had been hospitalized at Jackson Hospital and was "brain dead"

A young prisoner who was allegedly raped and tortured in jail before he died shared a heartbreaking Facebook post before he was beaten to death.

Daniel Williams was at the Staton Correctional Facility in Alabama serving a 12-month sentence for theft. He was found dead in his dorm on October 22, just two weeks before he was due to be released.

Officials said at first that the young dad died from a drug overdose, but prison insiders told the Alabama Political Reporter that he was "kidnapped, bound, assaulted and sold out" by a fellow inmate for "two or three days." Williams was keen to come home in the weeks before he was released and asked his Facebook friends how they were doing.

"Pray for me I'm coming home," Williams said, adding he was "better than I was before." The father of a boy and a one-year-old girl said he was now "drug-free" and it had been a "crazy ride" in three different prisons but that it was "almost over."

Williams' family is now seeking further information on what happened. His horrified fiance Amber said she didn't know what to tell her children, who will now grow up in a single-parent household.

She told a local news station: "I supposed to tell her about her daddy? Like, why isn't he here. Why didn't he ever come home? I went to the hospital and the nurses told me that he was assaulted and beaten badly... And when I went into the room, [he] had bruises all down his arm, like down to his fingers. He had cuts up and down and bruises on his legs."

Furious, Williams' parents demanded a rape test be carried out and claimed the doctor caring for Williams seen anything like it during his 30 years in the profession. Currently, the results of the rape test have not been released after a hospital staff finally examined his body on November 1.

Daniel's heartbroken sister Brittany Robinson wrote on her Facebook profile: "I’d take your place instantly, so you could have more time with your kids. I so would Daniel. This sissy is extremely exhausted and lost without her Daniel calling her…saying look what your niece done - learned how to talk about already.

"This sister held your hand for three days straight, this sister wiped your drool, wiped cold rags on you so you’re body could cool off in that hospital room. This sister told the nurses to clean you extra because you needed it, this sister made sure you were taken care of when I could.

"This sister watched you gasp for air, shake to try and breathe, this sister looked at your bruised body and bit her tongue from cussing the guard out at the prison 'cause she knew they’d stop me from seeing you… I told you I loved you, I talked to you even though I knew you couldn’t respond…I told you I love you, and I needed you to know we are okay. Oh Daniel, this s**t hurts so hard, I’m really really sorry…it’s not fair…please be at peace now."
