King Charles reportedly has a unique method to keep up with the family of his estranged son Prince Harry - and it involves a local paper from across the ocean.

With strained relations between the Royal family and the Sussexes, keeping up to date with Harry and Meghan Markle in California isn’t easy from the UK. Current reports suggest relations are at an all time low, with claims that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn't go to see any of the royals while they were in Europe recently, having travelled to Germany for the Invictus Games.

But, King Charles is rumoured to have been going to extra lengths to find out what they are all up to. It involves reading local Californian paper called the Montecito Journal, according to an American journalist, who told the Scottish Daily Express.

Richard Mineards is one of the columnists at the Journal and a former Fleet Street royal correspondent. The Daily Star reports that it's understood that he is a regular reporter of gossip in the area, which at times centres on the neighborhood's royal residents.

In a letter to the editor of the Scottish Daily Express, written by Eileen White Read, a colleague of Mr Mineards it said that their publication’s readership was "a group that includes, according to columnist Richard Mineards, England’s King Charles."

Despite this, no signs of reconciliation have appeared yet between the UK and California royals. This week, Harry and Meghan were in New York for an Archewell event for World Mental Health Day.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen heading to the Archewell Foundation Parents' Summit as part of Project Healthy Minds' World Mental Health Day Festival with police escorts.
