A fire that killed five people in their West London home on Sunday night is part of ongoing investigations.

The fatal blaze erupted at a terraced house on Channel Close in Hounslow at around 10.30pm on November 12. It burnt down the ground and first floors before a team of around 70 firefighters across 10 fire engines were able to bring it under control at approximately 1.25am on Monday, November 13.

Police confirmed that three of the five victims were children from the same family - Riyan, Shanaya and Arohi as tributes poured in from classmates at their school. Mum Seema Kishen was also killed in the fire, while her husband Aroen screamed, "My kids, my kids' as his children were trapped in the flames," reports MyLondon.

It's understood that Mr Kishen escaped the fire and was taken to hospital where he's still being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The fifth victim remains unidentified, while another person still remains unaccounted for, the London Fire Brigade said.

Photos of the house show how the fire burnt out the windows and tore a hole in the roof. On Tuesday (November 14), investigators were still combing through charred wreckage as they try to work out how the fire started.

Police said they are keeping an 'open mind', but Mr Kishen's brother-in-law Dileep Singh, who came from Manchester as soon as he was alerted to the fire, told the Evening Standard he was told the fire started in a bin outside the house. Mr Singh told The Standard: “It started in the bin that’s the information I was given.”

Investigation into fireworks as cause of deadly blaze

On Monday, November 13, Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson told reporters: “I know that people across the country will be shocked and saddened by this terrible event last night. Now everyone will want to know why this tragedy occurred and we will be working tirelessly with our colleagues in the London Fire Brigade to find those answers.

Asked if fireworks could be ruled out, he added: said: “At this stage, this is being investigated both by ourselves and specialist fire officers. I am not ruling anything out, I don’t think we are in a position to do that. We keep an open mind, it is such an early stage and there is an awful lot of work to be done.”

Neighbouring mum Naseep told MyLondon: "They're just kids, it's terrible. My children went to school with them and live so close by. When I first saw the smoke I thought the house was empty, it's all just so heartbreaking."

Harman Kapoor paid his respects, and told the same publication: "We came here out of concern for our community. You can see the tears in my eyes, I have been very emotional. It could happen to any family. Innocent people have died for no reason. So we have come to together as a community to pay our respects."

Staff will be in the local community throughout the week to offer support and advice where needed."

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones and the wider community following this terrible fire in Hounslow in which five people tragically lost their lives including three children. Good night and God bless.'

Hounslow Council leader councillor Shantanu Rajawat said: "On behalf of the council I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those who lost their lives in the tragic fire at Channel Close, Heston, last night.
