Angry bear mauls two men but they somehow manage to fight off beast

Shocking footage has captured the moment two men fight off an angry bear which tried to kill them.

The men were left badly hurt but alive following the brutal mauling, as both suffered serious head lacerations and arm lacerations after wrestling with the beast. They had been in the smoking room of their plant in Russia's Yakutia region when they saw a pack of dogs chasing something, according to local reports. The men then saw a bear emerging from behind bags of chemicals.

One of the pair - a mechanic - opened the door to chase away the bear but it immediately attacked him. Panic ensued as workers used fire extinguishers, flares and a gas spray to seek to scare the bear away. Eventually it loosened its grip on the mechanic but immediately grabbed and savaged the plant’s foreman.

‌One part of the video shows how the man was forced onto the snow by the raging bear. Workers eventually called in a local hunter, who came and shot the bear some 20 minutes after the attacks. The two men were given first aid at the site and rushed by helicopter to hospital.

Eyewitnesses speaking in the clip tell how the bear broke through the fence to enter the territory of the remote facility. One worried voice said: "Look, he's tearing the fence. He's climbing over, he's climbing over, isn't he?”. He then shouts “everybody run away”, before realising the bear has attacked one of the men. The bear then chases and savages the mechanic between the cabins, and the men decide that they need to kill it. The victims were named as Eldar Gareev, 39, and Ivan Bulashenko, 46.

The video was shared on Telegram channel Torboznoe Radio, who criticised safety at the gas facility in Siberia. The site was not secure against wild bears, and “the workers, in a critical situation, were not ready to protect themselves from the animal”, they said. “The story of a bear attack, as a result of which two workers were seriously injured, and the bear was killed by a hunter who arrived 20 minutes later, raises a lot of issues of labour protection of employees carrying out their activities in the habitats of animals dangerous to humans,” said the channel.
