Kate Middleton's uncle warned not to 'provoke' Harry and Meghan with new book

Kate Middleton’s uncle Gary Goldsmith has been warned against publishing a book that ‘fights back’ at claims made by Prince Harry in his bombshell memoir Spare because it will only ‘deepen the rift’ between the families.

The younger brother of the Duchess of Cambridge’s mother Carole Middleton is rumoured to be releasing a book to ‘clear the air’ after allegations against his niece made by the Duke of Sussex. Kate is reportedly going to ‘look over the manuscript’ of the book alongside her mum before it gets given to a publisher.

But royal expert and BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said she ‘can’t think why he would want to write a book in the first place’. She said the strategy from Prince William and the Princess of Wales to not publicly hit out or retaliate at Harry and Meghan Markle has been a success and should continue.

She told OK!: "I hope he doesn’t. Or, if he does, I hope it will be his story… not the story of the royal rift. I think the tactic so far - to rise above the barbs directed from California and instead to concentrate on work and service - has been both dignified and effective.

“If he starts disputing how events have played out it will surely only deepen the rift and provoke retaliation from the Sussexes. And so the vicious circle will continue. Much better to adopt Camilla’s strategy…least said, soonest mended. Mr Goldsmith is said to be wealthy enough, so I can’t think why he would want to write a book in the first place."

When news of Goldsmith's book emerged a source told Closer Magazine: “He won’t want to do anything that will embarrass them, but it could be a good way of putting a Middleton voice out there to set the record straight over some of the things Harry wrote about in Spare.”
