Wrexham star Ollie Palmer has admitted that his new moustachioed look is nothing short of 'terrible' but stressed his pride as he attempts to raise awareness for the Movember campaign.

The forward was one of the Red Dragons' storied promotion heroes during the club's successful National League campaign last term. However, he is now turning his attentions to matters off the pitch by lending his profile to highlighting the plight of families affected by prostate cancer.

As part of the campaign, Wrexham's players and staff will grow out their facial hair out over the next month. The League Two outfit's employees will be uniting in support of those living with cancer, while promoting men’s mental health and raising awareness for suicide prevention.

Usually seen sporting a bushier beard, Palmer addressed the subject while speaking to the club's website, with his look having dramatically changed. Now proudly boasting a moustache, Palmer explained how he is faring so far, saying: "How’s it going for me? Terribly.

"I look horrendous! But it’s worth it. It’s all for a great cause and trying to raise as much money," he asserted. "It’s not just me, there are six or seven other lads – players and staff – involved."

Across the globe every year, 1.4 million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer, with one in eight men in the UK diagnosed with the disease during their lifetime. The Movember organisation also aims to provide funding for mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer - the three biggest health issues facing men today in the country.

Wrexham's Head of Performance Medicine and Sports Science also described his own personal connection with the campaign. Kevin Mulholland's father died six years ago from the disease and he is determined to channel the experience of losing a loved one into a positive during November.

"As a club we have had a lot of individuals and families directly affected by prostate cancer," he explained, adding: "Having experienced the pain and suffering of losing my father to prostate cancer six years ago I know the toll it can take on families.

"This is our opportunity for players and staff at Wrexham AFC to help raise awareness of prostate cancer along with funds for a very important charity to help prevent men dying too soon from this illness."

In all, Palmer and Mulhollnad form part of a 13-strong list of Wrexham personnel who are taking part in this year's campaign. On top of the duo, they have been joined by Humphrey Ker, Jonny Griffiths, Owen Jackson, Iwan-Pugh Jones, James Edgerley, Liam Hall, Dan Davies, Aaron Hayden, Eoghan O’Connell, Tom O’Connor and Billy Waters.
