Kate Middleton was "sweetly bashful with Prince William" at a Remembrance event on Saturday night, a body language expert has revealed.

The Princess and Prince of Wales attended the Royal British Legion's annual Festival of Remembrance with King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the Royal family, a service on BBC1 from 9pm.

Body language expert Judi James watched Kate and William's arrival and assessed "a very powerful message" displayed by Kate, in addition to her "sweetly bashful" stance with her husband. Mum-of-three Kate, 41, wore a long-sleeved black dress to the event, had a stunning pearl necklace, and donned a red poppy.

Ms James told The Sun: "There’s a rather sweetly bashful look to William and Kate’s body language here, with the intense puckering around his mouth forming a suppressed and rather boyish smile, while Kate is almost hiding behind her newly-layered hair.

"Kate appears to be making a very important and powerful homage to the late Queen though... The pearls don’t look like Kate’s usual personal style but they are the ones worn by the late Queen as a signature statement piece that is immediately associated with her."

It is the second Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance since Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral aged 96. She was associated with the three-strand pearl necklace, which Kate has paired with the simple dress tonight.

"The combination of Kate and the late Queen’s pearls make a very powerful message of continuity and combined forces here as she stands to the front of the royal party with her head held up and a very solemn facial expression while William clasps his hands in front of his torso and tilts his head in an expression of silent sympathy and regret," Ms James added.

The Royals enjoyed the entertainment, provided by the likes of British soul legend Mica Paris, popstar Calum Scott and singer songwriter Katie Melua. The event at Royal Albert Hall, which is on the BBC, was hosted this year by Claire Balding.

And the Band of HM Royal Marines and The Band of The Royal Air Force Regiment created awe inspiring displays of military music for the event. This year’s function will commemorate the significant anniversaries of two crucial historical battles.

It is 80 years since The Battle of the Atlantic, the longest military campaign of World War II and the seventieth anniversary of the Korean War in which many national servicemen fought and died, with veterans from both wars present in the Hall.
