Channel 4 news anchor turned Strictly dancer Krishnan Guru-Murthy has wowed judges and audiences so far in the BBC dancing competition. But during last Saturday night's show, Krishnan left his 16-year-old son, Jay, cringing with a massive welcome sign as he joined the studio audience once again.

When it was first revealed that Krishnan would be competing to win the glitter ball, Jay begged his father not to participate and refused to join the rest of his family on the launch of the first episode of the season. But after a few more weeks, the table turned as Krishnan and his partner Lauren Oakley saw Jay watch them dance the Paso Doble to By The Way by the Red Hot Chili Peppers with, Krishnan dressed in a glittering black suit with sheer panels and a dramatic black eyeliner that brought out his eyes.

A massive sign reading 'Welcome Jay' was held up behind the 53 year old whilst he was receiving his feedback from the judges. Jay, who was caught on camera, was seen cringing with embarrassment in the audience, but he managed to have a laugh out of it. And in the most recent show at the weekend, the welcome sign had grown even larger, with Jay left looking like he wanted the ground to swallow him up.

In the past, Krishnan has spoken to The Daily Mail about his son's view on his participation: "'He begged me not to. It got to the point where, the week before I started and I hadn't signed my contract, which I casually mentioned and he said: 'You haven't signed your contract, so you don't have to do it? Please don't do it.'"

But after his first performance when Krishnan returned home, he was surprised by his new attitude. "His feedback was very muted to start with," said Krishnan. "He came through the door at 11pm on Saturday night and said he had watched the show and then I asked 'what did you think?"

"He then asked if he could come next week, which was great, it is such a breakthrough. He didn't want me to do it and now he wants to come to the studio and watch."

Working day in and day out for the live shows each weekend, Krishnan has dismissed the legendary Strictly curse which presumpts that participating on the show threatens the status of the relationship you’re in when you sign up. He said: "I'm not really across the gossip of 'Strictly' years gone past, but I honestly don't think the curse is something anyone needs to worry about when it comes to me. I'm very happily married and old enough to be the father of most of the dancers.”
