When you spot a bargain while doing your food shop, it's not unusual to decide to stock up with more than you would usually buy - especially if it's going to last you a while and save you money in the long run.

But one mum has received some backlash online for her shopping choice after she decided to spend £24 on 12 turkey crowns that had been reduced to just £2 each at her local Asda.

Some suggested the woman was buying far more than she needed and wasn't leaving any discounted meat for other people, but the mum defended her actions by stating she often helps her local community and will be donating some of the turkey crowns to those in need.

The mum shared her cheap find on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook, where she wrote: "£2 each in Chester Asda. I got 12, and for those who wanna slate my post, I don't care.

"I gave my family 3, I've kept some for my daughter who loves turkey (she's autistic) and I always help the community with a food larder in my utility, so all going to good use. No food waste here, I will pop one in the bag when somebody asks for help with food, tinned veg and gravy for a meal for them."

Commenters on the post were divided, but many told the mum she didn't need to explain her actions to anyone, as it was nobody's business why she decided to buy 12 turkey crowns.

One said: "Good on you! Such a shame people have to justify themselves on here."

While another added: "Never explain yourself to anyone."

And a third commented: "Belting deal. I'd have filled the trolley if it would fit in the freezer - don't give a hoot what anyone says. Enjoy!"

But others stated there was no need for the woman to share exactly how many she had bought, as she would save herself from any negativity if she just posted the price.

Someone posted: "You know you could save yourself from feeling like you have to explain yourself or people's comments by simply posting a picture of a single turkey and not mentioning the 12. That's what I'd do, I just wouldn't say how many I picked up."

As someone else wrote: "I still don't know why people bother saying how many they bought when they know they will get negative comments for it. If you don't want to bother answering the negative comments, just don't say how many you bought."
