ITV has announced that Celebrity Big Brother will be making a comeback to our TV screens in 2024. The show will feature a cast of celebs living in the Big Brother house, participating in weekly nominations and challenges, all under the watchful eye of the cameras.

A follow-up programme, Celebrity Big Brother: Late & Live, will air after the main show, where evicted contestants will be interviewed for the first time post-eviction. In October, a new series of Big Brother was launched on ITV, marking the return of the reality show which last aired on Channel 5 in 2018.

After seven years of producing the often controversial show, Channel 5 decided to discontinue both versions of Big Brother. However, in 2022, it was confirmed that ITV would be launching a new series of the "civilian" version of the programme, with a promotional video airing during the Love Island series finale on ITV2.

Paul Mortimer, director of reality commissioning and acquisitions and controller, ITV2 and ITVBe, expressed his excitement about the show's return: "The reception from our viewers to Big Brother's return has been fantastic. We're therefore thrilled to announce that we'll be bringing our very own celebrity edition to ITV1 and ITVX next year. Casting is underway to find a new batch of famous faces who are sure to provide more iconic and unmissable BB moments."

Producer Natalka Znak, the boss of Initial, Remarkable Entertainment and Znak TV, said: "The launch series on ITV2 has been so much fun to make and we're glad Big Brother has found a whole new audience on ITV2.

" She added: "It's been a joy working with ITV and we're excited to do it all over again and this time with celebrities and on ITV1."

Ryan Thomas, a soap star, won the last series of Celebrity Big Brother. During his time on the show, he was involved in a scandal when actress Roxanne Pallett claimed he had deliberately hurt her with a punch. Viewers defended this as play-fighting and Thomas was shown the clip of the incident during his post-eviction interview. He told host Emma Willis how scared he had been when the drama unfolded.

There were other memorable and controversial moments from Celebrity Big Brother. One such moment was when pantomime star Christopher Biggins was removed from the show in 2016 for making a number of comments. These included the suggestion that bisexual people were responsible for spreading Aids. At the time, CBB said: "Since entering Big Brother, he has made a number of comments capable of causing great offence to housemates and the viewing public. Big Brother does not tolerate offensive language capable of causing widespread offence."

In 2016, more than 200 people complained after Channel 5 aired scenes where American TV personality Tiffany Pollard mistakenly thought fellow contestant David Gest had died. The reality star was left in tears when Angie Bowie shared the sad news that "David's dead", referring to her ex-husband David Bowie's passing due to cancer.

Gest's unfortunate nap timing led to a misunderstanding, but tragically, he passed away three months later, leading Pollard to remove 'David Is Dead' slogan T-shirts from her website. In 2017, TV personality Kim Woodburn, one half of the cleaning duo Kim and Aggie, was escorted out of the main Celebrity Big Brother house by security following a heated argument with several housemates.

As she was being removed, the presenter of 'How Clean Is Your House?' labelled her fellow housemates as "chinless wonders". ITV has commissioned other reality series for 2024, including Love Island: All Stars, a second series of My Mum, Your Dad and the upcoming The Fortune Hotel.
