National Citizen Service (NCS) has a fantastic new opportunity for young people aged 16 to 17 to join a free and unforgettable weekend, and there are places still available across the UK. The best bit? It doesn’t cost anything to attend, the only ask is a voluntary donation to Children in Need, also taking place on the same weekend.

The weekend promises to be a fun-filled event which will give young people the chance to connect with friends old and new, get involved in adrenaline-filled activities and enjoy campfires with live music and DJ sets to help participants relax, socialise, and connect with others.

The weekend starts on the evening of Friday, November 17, giving people time to travel to the location after sixth form, college, or work. It runs through to the afternoon of Sunday, November 19, leaving participants the time to get home and relax before Monday begins.

Seth Everard of Ingeus, NCS’ delivery partner, said: “The Big NCS Sleepover is a free weekend away for 16 to 17-year-olds to connect and make new memories. We’re inviting everyone who has already taken part in NCS before too, so it is a great opportunity for people who have completed NCS during the summer to come together again and meet up with old friends and make new ones."

The Big NCS Sleepover is happening in locations across England. Many travel hubs will transport those taking part and drop them off on-site. The weekend is jampacked with activities including high ropes and archery, to help those taking part build trust, confidence and communication — all whilst having fun.

The Big NCS Sleepover takes place at eight venues around the country, with pick-up points offering free transport from selected cities. Or you can make your way to the venue – you simply state your preference when you sign up.

Seth added: “NCS helps young people grow their strengths. Over 750,000 young people have already done NCS, and in 2024 we’re offering a range of away-from-home experiences for young people.

"NCS away-from-home experiences are a great way for young people to build on useful skills for life and work, as well as getting outdoors to have fun with their friends.''

The NCS five-day, four-night, away-from-home experiences in 2024 are funded by the government, and all food, accommodation, travel, and activities are included. There are also bursaries available for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
