Ghislaine Maxwell's conditions revealed in report about 'disgusting' prison

Human trafficker and former socialite Ghislaine Maxwell is serving out her 20-year sentence in prison under revolting conditions, it has been revealed.

The 60-year-old was moved last year to FCI Tallahassee in Florida following being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center, New York, since her arrest in July 2020 on charges that she lured girls as young as 14 into Jeffrey Epstein’s abusive circle.

Now a new 49-page report on FCI Tallahassee’s living conditions by the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has revealed the conditions she - the daughter of media mogul-turned-con artist Robert Maxwell - has been living in. Inspectors said the windows and ceilings of all five housing units at the federal lockup were so run down that inmates were using sanitary towels to plug leaks.

Photos in the US Bureau of Prisons’ report showed revolting food, including mouldy bread, a rotting cucumber, spoiled celery stalks, and warped containers of mayonnaise plagued by flecks of mould. Cereal bags were infested with bugs, according to another photo, while food containers in storage were seen leaking and seemingly left to rot, according to photos in the report that was earlier reported on by the Daily Mail.

Officials from the DOJ's Office of the Inspector General (OIG) also blasted bosses for failing to stem the flow of contraband including cigarettes, vapes, opioids, and the synthetic cannabis substitutes, K2 and Spice. The report said: "'We observed mouldy bread being served as well as discoloured and rotting vegetables in a food preparation refrigerator at the female prison. In the food storage warehouses, we found likely evidence of rodent droppings, as well as bags of cereal with insects in them and warped food containers.

"The outer perimeter is enclosed behind a short single fence, large portions of which are easily accessible to the public from a municipal park. From such a location, individuals could easily throw contraband onto prison property for inmates to collect and bring back into the institution."

The report comes after DailyMail.com revealed that Maxwell has lodged 400-plus complaints during her stint behind bars. She has been dubbed "prison Karen." Some of her complaints range from not having access to black hair dye, poor vegan options on the menu and allergy-triggering bedding.

'Karen' is a term used as slang for middle-class white women, which some view as sexist. Others simply say the term is merely said in jest and used to poke fun at a person who gets angry for little reason. Maxwell took part in an interview with Jeremy Kyle on TalkTV earlier this year, where she said she wished she had "never met" Epstein.
