The FA are reportedly investigating Raheem Sterling after the Chelsea star appeared to throw a missile into the crowd during the win over Tottenham.

Chelsea beat their London rivals 4-1 on Monday night after a frantic match that saw Spurs finish with nine men while five goals were also disallowed.

Tottenham had taken the lead early on but Chelsea drew level midway through the first half thanks to a Cole Palmer penalty, after Cristian Romero had fouled Enzo Fernandes.

Palmer and his teammates celebrated in front of the home support with the former Manchester City youngster putting his finger to his lips. An object appeared to be launched from a section of Tottenham fans before being thrown back by Sterling.

The FA are now reviewing the incident and the Mail reports Sterling could even face a potential ban. It comes after footage of the incident was posted on Chelsea's official TikTok account earlier this week.

Sterling went on to set up one of Nicolas Jackson's goals as the Chelsea striker helped himself to a hat-trick, with the visitors making the most of the two-man advantage.

The developments come after Sterling was again left out of the England squad for upcoming matches against Malta and North Macedonia. He has not played for his country since the World Cup but Gareth Southgate insists the door remains open.

He said. "We don’t need to know about his quality, his personality. He is a crucial part of the journey we’ve been on. It’s an area of the pitch where we have as much competition as anywhere.

"Jarrod Bowen has started the season well. Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer are doing well. It’s a changing landscape there. We used to not have wingers, that’s why we used wing-backs in Russia. We have a lot of depth in those areas now, that’s what people need to understand."

Sterling will hope to continue his good form as Chelsea take on former club Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, looking to cement their place in the top half of the Premier League.
