Prince George missed his role as one of the Pages of Honour at King Charles’s State Opening of Parliament this week - but the youngster had a good excuse.

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s son was noticeably absent during the ceremony because he is facing a very important set of exams in November. The 10-year-old is set to take his ISEB Common Pre-Tests, or the ‘eleven plus’. The exams are typically taken in Year 6 by 10 or 11-year-old students.

Young George has been a Page of Honour before and during the coronation of King Charles he appeared alongside Nicholas Barclay, Ralph Tollemache and Lord Oliver Cholmondeley. But on Tuesday, the lineup had changed with the royal replaced by Charles van Cutsem, son of Hugh and Rose van Cutsem.

The Cambridge’s eldest son opted to study instead of attend the State Opening because the important exams test a pupil’s talent and potential before they head on to secondary schools, writes Tatler. They are accepted across most schools throughout England, including the prestigious Eton.

Kate Middleton has also missed royal engagements to prioritise George’s education. With Prince William in Singapore for the Earthshot Prize, he revealed in a speech at the United for Wildlife summit: "I should mention that Catherine is very sorry she can’t be here. She is helping George through his first set of major exams."

The princess is said to be sad at seeing her son head off to boarding school. According to a royal insider the couple have made up their minds and will be sending their eldest son, and second in line to the throne, to Eton College. A source claims that the Princess of Wales is dreading the time when her son packs up and leaves for boarding school, but has accepted that it's part of his destiny as a royal.
